Analysis of Descriptive Data The mean score on all questions for the second survey (2.91) is higher than the mean for the data in the first survey (2.65). Some believe that wage inequality was caused by educated people versus uneducated people. Many positions search for certain skills and if you happen to be in the right place at the right time then you would receive a position with a decent wage. As far as the benefit to the company is concerned, tuition reimbursement is huge. The fact that not many companies in today’s society even offer it, make it even more valuable. It can save a person upward of $60,000-$100,000 over the years that it takes to get a bachelor’s degree.
Therefore, like an ignorant individual, I assumed that my living was the standard of living of everyone else’s. I had many richer friends, which also made me think that my standard of living was average. However, thinking critically, there are tons of people who do not have the means or the grades to go to an educational level beyond high school and therefore receive minimum wage jobs without a good opportunity for promotion because those will be handed to people with the higher educational people. Also, that leaves very little room to improve the condition of living that you find yourself in. Therefore most of the times you will find yourself marrying an individual of the same economic class due the nature that nobody wants to date someone of lower class as you.
The National Employment Law Project finds that about sixty-six percent of low-wage workers are employed by large companies or corporations, not small businesses. “It also found that more than seventy percent of the biggest low-wage employers have recovered from the recent recession and are recording strong profits, yet wages remains unchanged for their frontline employees. The minimum wage hasn't kept up with inflation, making those with families of three or more people well below the poverty level.”(National Employment Law Project) One group claims that by increasing the rate, small businesses will be strapped for making ends meet thus potentially having fewer available job positions. There is also the concern of having to layoff employees in order to make a profit. Another factor to consider is perhaps companies may have to raise the price of a consumer good or product to offset the increase in an employee’s wages.
