February 18, 2013 Period 1 Black History Month Stevie Wonder This guy is blind. He can play 10 instruments including the piano, harmonica, drums, bass guitar, congas, bongas, clavinet, melodica, vocals, and synthesizer. He is Stevie Wonder. He is also known as Stevland Hardaway Judkins, Stevland Hardaway Morris, and Eivets Rednow. Stevie Wonder was born May 13, 1950 (age 62). He was born in Soginaw, Michigan the 3rd out of 6 children. He was blind as a result of receiving too much oxygen as a premature baby. Parents were Calvin Judkins and Lula Mae Hardaway. Stevie learned to play instruments at a very early age. Wonder always like to sing he would sing at church. Stevland was discovered at the age of 11 by Ronnie White. In 1962 his name was changed to Little Stevie Wonder. Age 13 he had a major hit Fingertips 1963 single taken from a live recording he was on vocals, bongas, and harmonica and Marvin Gaye on drums. Wonder preformed at the opening ceremonies of the 2012 Winter Paralympics in Salt Lake City. In February 23, 2009 Wonder became he second recipient of the Library of Congress's Gershwin Prize for pop music honored by President Barack Obama at the White House. Wonder recorded more than thirty U.S. top 10 hits. Stevie won twenty-five Grammy Awards. Stevie was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989. Wonder also had 7 children. I think Stevie Wonder is worthy of recognition because he was blind shortly after birth and he loved music and he never gave up on what he loved.
