We are all “circling the drain.” Well, if you read the cartoon by Don Wright on page 13 of the class text book you would assume just that. A man worriedly stares at a small spot on his left wrist, thinking to himself. He ponders if the spot is cancer, bacteria, a virus, or some other horrible, deadly disease that he doesn’t even know about. He wonders what he did wrong. Did he stay outside too long and suffer the consequences from the deadly global warming, did his physician seal his fate by prescribing him too many antibiotics, or was he caught in some unknown nerve gas attack?…show more content…
If you were to only watch the news on television and nothing else, whether it is CNN, Fox, NBC, ABC, or CBS, you could be easily convinced that everyone you meet will try to kill you, the world is a complete cesspool, and every country on this planet is in a state of complete chaos. No matter what you do, some type of death or tragedy is right around the corner, waiting to jump out and end it all. Let’s take a few moments and step back into reality. We all know that too much sun exposure to the skin can cause Melanoma; E. coli can be transmitted by the consumption of dirty food; you can contract Lyme disease from an infected deer tick; and Epidermal Computer Rot, well, I’m not sure what that is, but how likely are you to contract any of the mentioned ailments or diseases? The likelihood of someone contracting a fatal disease is not the point; bad things happen to people all of the time, some of them can be avoided and some cannot. Bad things just
