The process of research has several different angles to achieve the final conclusion.   We use many different tools in helping us achieve our goal in finding the truth.   One tool is to   understand and use the research process. Research is a process of examination.   I feel it is an examination of a subject from different points of view.   It’s not just a trip to the library to pick up a stack of books, or pick the first five hits from a computer search.   Research is a process to find the truth.   It is getting to know a subject by reading up on it, reflecting, playing with the ideas, choosing the areas that interest you and following up on them.   Research is the way we teach our selves about different subjects. The process of research follows the same guidelines when dealing with any subject.   We follow the same scientific method in leading us to the truth.   The scientific method consists of 1) Determine a scientific problem to solve or make an observation. 2) Develop a hypothesis. 3) Testing your hypothesis 4) recording your observations 5) Drawing a conclusion (Cowens, 2013).  
The reason we use primary and secondary data is to obtain a conclusion when conducting research.   It is a good idea to use both in order to confirm results.   Primary data is collected by the person who is conducting the research.   The researcher can collect data through experiments, surveys, questionnaires, focus groups, face to face interviews, and phone interviews.   Secondary data is a source that already was collected, data that happened in the past. The researcher is able to use secondary data from journals, books, census data, articles and databases. Secondary sources are readily available for use. The cost between the two can be are very different.   Primary data can be expensive due to the time it would take to conduct surveys and the expense of materials used to process questionnaires.   The researcher would practically have no expense in using secondary data since it is already...
