Standards of Living Essay The living standards in Canada hold a high standard, while there are many countries all over the world that are in poor conditions and don’t know how to get out of them. It has been this way for years, we live in a place where so many people are well housed, healthy, and have good literacy skills. Canada is industrialized and has a good infrastructure, whereas countries like Kenya and Niger have few schools, doctors, hospitals, communication links, and means of transportation. Their quality of life is very different than ours, there are in large debts, and certain citizens have fewer rights. Quality of life varies between people depending on the conditions they are given. In Canada, we have access to a large number of resources. People living in poverty can look at the government for programs to help them when they need it. Everyone has the right to an education and health care. If someone can’t afford food or a place to live, there are shelters, food banks, and charitable organizations available to help them. In developing countries, a poor family would be living in a house made of scraps they found and they would not be able to have any electricity sanitation, or safe drinking water. Just getting basic supplies like water could take woman hours to get each and every day. There is enough food in the world to feed everyone but it doesn’t happen because not everyone can afford it. Even though Canada is bigger than most developing countries, the population is much lower. Kenya for example has 41 million people with a growth rate of 2.6% while Canada only has 34 million and a growth rate of 0.8%. With this many people and a growing population, it is hard to help everyone. The life expectancy in Canada is 81 years, in Kenya it’s 57.
