Leadership Essay By: Chelsea Stewart There are many things that being a leader means to me. I believe that in order to be called a leader you must have the ability to influence others to achieve a certain goal. However, true leaders are not born with this ability but rather earned. Leaders can only accomplish this by applying their own leadership attributes. For example, ideas, ethics, morals, expertise, values, personality and knowledge are some good attributes to have.
My confidence plays a big role in the person I am today. Freshman year was based on hard work and trying new things. This taught me to be in control. The work was not going to get done for me so to succeed I was the one who had to push myself and take over. Being a part of drill team has helped me with control by helping others in learning routines or chants with taking charge when others do not.
All great coaches have learned what they know from other coaches and players. Don't keep the attitude that you know everything and are the greatest coach to ever walk the earth. Be humble and eager to learn from others. This is how to become a better coach. Like players, coaches should "be coachable".
Because leadership is based on action, it emerges as a function of participation and interaction within the organization. Given this description, how can leadership be nothing? Leadership is nothing in the sense that it seems impossible to define completely. JROTC’s goal to build leadership is to keep the military full of these people because nobody stays forever. So when these leaders step down or are KIA then new leaders must fill in the spots.
Effectiveness, rather than pure efficiency, is the key to the work of professionals—the sick want a cure, the accused want exoneration, and the defenseless seek security. “I am an expert and I am a professional” (the ninth statement of The Soldier’s Creed) eludes to our duty as soldiers to know our job and be able to perform it under any circumstance imaginable without hesitation or question. Second, professionals are capable of making judgment calls, applying their skills and reaching informed decisions in situations that the general public cannot, because they have not received the relevant training. Professions create their own standards of performance and codes of ethics to maintain their effectiveness. One of the examples of professional ethics is the Hippocratic Oath to which medical doctors adhere to.
• If you allow your own preferences to dominate your work with people, you fail to perform to the standards set by the UK regulating bodies, they require workers to respect and promote people’s individual views and wishes. • To make the right response when there is a clash between your views and those of the people you are working for, you have to identify and understand your own views and values. • Lots of people are better suited to working for themselves which isn’t always about an inability to follow orders; it can be for many reasons exclusive per company/boss. • Own Values: you may be working shifts you don’t like, and not be able to do anything about it, events like these will lead to disagreements with how your boss sees’s things and how work is
He worked more than most dads, but in his off time he coached me and my friends. He not only was my dad but he was my coach, and as my coach he taught teamwork, dedication, and to believe in yourself. He not only taught this to me but he taught the team this too. I never got treated like a coach’s kid which was a good thing and a bad thing. I didn’t get special treatment; I had to work harder than anyone else to make sure that I earned my spot.
I strived to succeed, so when I didn’t do my best I would get very upset with myself and try harder until I was the best. I hate the feeling of failure especially when I knew that I had tried my very hardest. My parents always told me try your hardest or don’t try at all, so anytime I lost at something I felt like I was letting them down. Like I said before the best feeling in the world is when your parents show pride in you, well how awesome that feels is coinciding with how horrible it feels when they are upset with me. Through the years I have learned what I am good at and what I don’t excel in.
While I agree with General Dempsey’s view on how to form the Army into a “Profession of Arms,” I don’t think today’s Army is quite there yet. I think The Army is going in the right direction but it will take time to change the culture. We need to understand that it is virtually impossible for all Soldiers to be professionals based on experience and expertise alone. We need to understand that not all Soldiers join today for honor, tradition, and/or wanting to be a part of a team. Soldiers are joining the military more and more to have a secure job with benefits for themselves and their family members.
Empowerment does not give people power, people already has the power, but bring that power to the surface can be a tough experience. Defining empowerment in lamens terms is releasing the power within. Gaining skills and knowledge that will allow them to overcome obstacle in their life and work can ultimately help them develop themselves in their eyes and societies. Empowerment is a great thing, but it can have a negative impact on individuals, corporations, and productivity, depending on the goals of the individual. Empowerment can divide genders and races.
