One of the most popular arguments is should students be allowed to play sports if their grades does not meet standards. There are many factors that prove that students’ participation in any athletic program at school should be based on their academics. Discipline, priority and commitment are three factors that support the argument. Students whose grades meet standards and above has shown that they are more discipline to concentrate on their academics and be a part of a team.
From this, my students will be able to express their individuality and I can help them develop this. I want my student athletes to be unique and, with that in mind, possess unique skills as it pertains to sports. I believe that if student athletes possess a firm understanding of who they are as individuals and what they are capable of, and then they can truly develop their individual style(s) of play. This in turn can help lead to team unity and can establish a team spirit within all the student athletes that can lead to camaraderie and ultimately, success. CWPA, NCTE, and NWP claim in “Framework for Success in Postsecondary Writing,” that “Habits of mind refers to ways of approaching learning that are both intellectual and practical and that will support students’ success in a variety of fields and disciplines” (122). At the Recreation Center, responsibility and persistence are habits of the mind that most students apply. Persistence, which the authors describes, is the “ability to sustain interest in and attention to short and long-term projects,” that pushes these students to come back throughout their education, regardless of how high their workload has piled up (122). When approaching college, students find it much more difficult to schedule exercising while balancing out their college life. There are exams to study for, deadlines to meet, and expectations to live up to.
By being part of such a prestigious national society I hope to create great awareness for many causes.
