In Jesus teachings, he never told Christians to do all those negative actions however, it is said to be a misunderstanding. According to Mathew 5, it says, ‘Do not resist an evildoer ’. This verse has been traditionally interpreted to mean that one should be non resistant to evil. In contract with Jesus, he resisted evil in every way he could. On the other hand, the gospel teaches about being non resistance, and therefore,Christians should not practice self defense.
Identify and briefly explain some of the ways in which functionalists see religion meeting the needs of society and individuals (9 marks) Functionalists believe that religion has a definite purpose in society. First of all Malinowski says that religion can offer answers to things that are unexplainable or appear to break scientific laws. An example would be if somebody looked at a landscape and had an overwhelming feeling of beauty, they could only ask themselves why they thought it was beautiful. This is also known as a numinous experience. A Christian could just say you know this due to the way God made the earth and humans.
These statements hindered my acceptance of the Beautiful and Wonderful Gospel of Christ. One statement was “God hates gays”, although, this is untrue there are plenty of Christians who will stand by this statement, and, by effect turn many away from the Gospel. The” don’t do as I do, do as I say”, hypocritical, actions of some has pushed many away. For example, someone who is committing fornication, yet, condemns a homosexual is enough for some people to react negatively to the Good News. The issues of historical events, such as slavery, the Crusades, and the Salem witch trials, all have some impact on why people deny the Gospel.
He had many more points that just charity and consistency, and they were all very important, but I thought these two were the most interesting and most controversial within today’s society. Emerson’s view on anti-religion is also a strong subject that is viewed down upon by most people. Emerson felt the Christian religion dampened the spirit rather than bringing it up. Although Emerson was against religion in some ways, he still mentions God and a “higher power” throughout his essay, so it shows that he does believe in some form of higher power. Hitchens is very anti-religious and is a well-known atheist.
In Christianity people worship God. In the Buddhist religion they do not really have a God that they worship. Some of the Buddhist members worship the Buddha even though that is not what the Buddha wanted them to do. He really wanted them to follow his teachings to reach a life of no suffering. This religion is also different from Christianity because in services there is a minister and deacons that lead the service.
Thus becoming the cultural norm of our present day existence. However, the understanding of the authority of the written Word of God, has been lost to some groups, who believe that it is ok to do “whatever they feel like doing,” without any respect to the order that has been laid down by God and established by the laws of the states. These laws are presently being threatened by various groups that wish to promote their lifestyle and as the bible says, would hope to “change the truth of God into a lie.” The truth is committing adultery, homosexuality, pornography, incestuous relationships, and any other form of unnatural use of the body, including fornication, goes against the fabric of our society and causes tremendous tears that disturb the core of
I don’t consider your / Pronouncements so important that they can / Just…overrule the unwritten laws of heaven. / You are a man, remember” (Sophocles 12). This seen illustrates, that Creon does think he is god, and has no respect for the real gods. Antigone in so many words is explaining to him that he is wrong, and a person should not be denied burial rights for any reason. Creon does not like her explanation, and explains that “I don’t care if she is my sister’s daughter.
Because of the question and answer form, the author was most likely Confucian, though had positive thoughts towards Buddhism as well. The author says that not everything had to be the works of Confucius because they don’t comprise everything. This document explains why monks reject getting married and having children. It states that wives, children, and property are luxurious, but monks choose to give up such entities for simple living to gain knowledge and goodness. This document shows that adherents to Buddhism are in no way harming anybody, and Confucianism and Buddhism can exist together without the need for violence or hatred.
• Jehovah’s witnesses differ from other religious groups by their belief in the leader in the church or religion. Jehovah’s witnesses have no human leader. They have a high value on moral living. Also, they do not take part in gambling, anal sex, oral sex, over drinking, abortions, and wars for they believe it is part of sin. Jehovah’s witnesses believe in the bible like many other religious groups.
He states that it is either Christianity went wrong or our instincts went bad. He believes that our instincts have gone wrong. He goes on to say that we have been lied to and that our sexual desires is in the same state of any of our other natural desires and if we stop hiding it then things will be alright. Many people think that Christian Chastity is impossible, but when one really puts there mind to it they will be surprised at what they can overcome. Lewis then goes on to say that we cannot simply do it on our own strength but to go to God for our strength.
