Punishing your child for their bad behavior should never cause them physical or mental damage. So what is corporal punishment? How does it affect our children? Is corporal punishment a good or bad thing? If corporal punishment is so bad why did they allow it to continue for so many years?
Krebs seemed to have a very caring mother and father. Although Krebs’s father is only mentioned a couple times throughout the story you can somewhat tell his intentions towards Krebs when he agrees to let him take the family car. The incident between Krebs and his mother in the story proves that his mother wants the best for Krebs and is very encouraging, although the conversation results in his mother crying she still continues to accept his apology and encouraging him. As you could imagine being a parent in this era was completely different as far as the methods of discipline, encouragement, and so
Eventually, Chris discovers that his father was still married to Marcia for seven years while with Billie, attempting to maintain a home with both women. The two women discover what he’s done when Chris is only 2 years old, forcing Walt and Billie to move. It takes four more years before Walt divorces Marcia and marries Billie, and during their relationship frequent fights can be remembered by their children. In high school, many years later, Chris learns of what his father did and grows angry at the hypocrisy of his father’s expectations. After five years of dwelling on his anger, Chris decides that he cannot stand human hypocrisy and disappears, attempting to teach his family a lesson as well.
Matt now has a son, a good wife, and an ordinary life; he still has a good family life without going to university. In contrast with Kate, although she has good education and job, she doesn’t have her own family and in fact, she says, “I had never thought I would really love anyone.” (89) From another perspective, she seems to be the one that is going to have a sad life. Similar with Luke, when he rejects Sally it is due to his responsibility as a caregiver. He is happy with his decision since it is for his family. If Matt chooses to go to university instead and leaves Marie, he will most likely lose his happiness and truly be an emotionless “nerd” and suffers like Kate who does not truly knows the meaning of love.
Bridging the Gap Although Doctor Hata is viewed as a man of honesty, wisdom, and respect in Bedley Run, he lacks the compassion and warmth of a typical father figure. Doc Hata thinks he has done everything in his power to give his daughter a good life so that she can grow up to be a polite, mature, and independent woman. Throughout Sunny’s transformation into a young lady, Hata treats his daughter as if she is already an adult, making sure she is obedient and respectful to everyone. “Yes, poppa,” would be something Sunny have been taught to say to acknowledge her father. Yet, Doc Hata raises his adopted child as a task or a mission, guided by specific principles and rules, instead of a father raising his little girl with love and passion.
Wily treated his wife with no respect when they were together around their sons. When they were alone he treated his wife with love respect and courtesy. I think Wily did that because he just wanted to connect more with his son without his wife interrupting them. I feel wives back then were treated like that but stayed with their man because a family and a marriage was the most important thing back then. Women now days are more independent and know if they are treated that way then they should leave.
Even though their situation seemed bleak, Elena felt that she should still carry out simple motherly duties, like celebrating her daughter’s birthday, to make Lina feel more secure. As her mother she felt it her responsibility to try and brighten up her daughter’s day in any way she could. By doing this Elena was trying to give Lina hope and maintain some semblance of normality as well as celebrate a milestone in her child’s life. Earlier on in the novel, Jonas contracts scurvy because of the lack of vitamins in his miniscule diet. Elena expresses motherly responsibilities and tries to nurture her son back to health.
Of course, Odysseus failed and that proved to Palamedes he was mentally sane. He loved his mother and helped her with his father’s property. Athena wanted Telemachus to be like his father. She decided to help him because he was young, uneducated, sad, and useless. She gave Telemachus strength and determination and restores his father’s memory.
Examples of this would be how they still looked after their father when he had a stroke even after all the horrible things that he had done to them. Also Rohana still loved her dad even after he abused her and she expressed this by telling Brian about how much she loves her dad. Another example would be how they still thought that their step mother was a nice lady, where most people would have despised their step mother in that situation. For Rohana and Rohani the death of their mother contributed to their experiences. If their mother was still alive they would not have to hide from their father.
