20 September 2012 Gahre, 1 When is Enough, Enough? “Clearly, our love affair with our pets has gotten out of control,” Buckhard Bilger argues in ‘The Last Meow”. Animal owners are taking spending to an entirely different level, paying upwards of $2,000 for root canals, chemotherapy and even radiation. Bilger believes that Americans over spending on their pets is outrageous. He is right; in fact the amount Americans spend on their furry friends is three times as much as the federal government spends on welfare grants.
Make that decision based on the facts. Unfortunately, most dogs are in shelters because people did not put any thought into their new pet. Doing your research can save more than your sanity in the long run, it could save the life of a dog. Most shelters can only keep dogs for a short period of time before they are euthanized, because of the high numbers of pets in these shelters. This is just the beginning of the research you should be doing before deciding on your new pet.
In the story of the Evil of Animal “Rights”, the writer tells us that animals are being test every day which causes death to most of them. He says that it is not a right to kill animals. Then, he gives so many evidences to prove using testing animals are extinct. I think, using animals for testing give us new vaccine which makes our lives better. Without animals for testing, where would our lives be going?
Pot bellied pigs are very unique and individualistic. Their Personalities are always one of a kind, just like dogs. Many piglets shy away from being picked up or touched very much, but this soon changes once you and your piglet bond. They usually become very affectionate and pretty much a lap “dog”. Piglets often tend to have trust issues with their new owners and that may take some time to work through.
Some may use this to claim that we worry too much about the welfare of animals, when in reality we should be focusing on the more important matters such as charities which help to support those suffering from injustice, war, and are in need of food and simple supplies in order to survive. The Donkey Sanctuary is an example of a charity which raises money to help injured and neglected donkeys around the world. They are equally important as any other animal on the planet, however, they are not on the verge of extinction, and apart from the work which they have been bred to do for their owners, these animals don’t contribute majorly to society. Whilst a portion of the money raised for this specific organisation goes to help these animals, there are children in countries such as Africa, dying from hunger and diseases which could be cured by simple medication, which the people there frankly cannot afford. These children could have been our future; however there are those who choose to support charities such as ‘donkey sanctuary’ rather than charities which directly deliver the aid and education needed and prevent an early end to a child’s life, a human, again as I emphasised earlier, our own species.
By comparison, the total number of sheep lost to predators was 18,300, with 13,900 of them killed by coyotes. 900 were killed by domestic dogs, and 400 were killed by eagles (more than were killed by wolves), but there is no outcry of anger because of those losses. These numbers are typical of every year since the reintroduction of wolves. In fact, the total number of predatory losses has actually decreased steadily since the beginning of available data in 1984 with 51,700 predatory losses, 38,300 of which were killed by coyotes. Even more are lost each year to other causes such as weather or disease, 21,100 in 2012, plus 3,600 dead from unknown causes.
Pet Overpopulation Sonia Sykes COM172 March 18, 2011 David Searle Pet Overpopulation In the United States alone there are more than four million dogs and cats euthanized each year, according to a journal published by Siress, A. (2010). This is a result of very many unwanted animals, over breeding, and many different economic factors. Truth is, owning a pet is a luxury and takes a large amount of time that some people do not have to invest into their pets, so these animals are abandoned, mistreated, and surrendered if they are lucky to animal shelters. Far too many are dumped along desolate roads where the owner cannot be seen throwing their dog or cat away like trash to fend for themselves.
As I stated before, I do believe it is important to understand conditioned emotional response, but that in it self should convey that emotional responses can be conditioned. I believe that most people can understand the term association, especially animal owners. I have a dog and when my dog starts to act crazy, I reach for my keys. As soon as she sees this she calms down, because she does not like the sound of the clanging keys. This is another example of a conditioned response, all though by dog is not a
Just think about that, you love your pet the way it is, imagine if one day someone came along and just stuck a needle into it and said it will improve it. There’s a chance your pet could die or suffer from a defect in the testing which would result in your pet being messed up, it might even forget who you are. Even though you loved your pet before it has now changed and is no longer the original pet which you cared about, it could be better but still why would you have a pet unless you liked it the way it
Each year, throughout thousands of animals are dying or being ridiculously abused. In 2007, there were 1,880 animal abuse cases in America. 1,212 of those cases were about dogs, 337 were about cats, and 470 were other animals. Harmless, innocent animals are being hurt, and being very harmed but crucial people with no intention of what they are really doing. They are beating poor animals senseless.
