While it is true that Earth has benefitted from past space exploration, it remains very important for the leaders of America to weigh the pros and cons of further exploration. They must take into consideration today’s economy and the fact that many people are much more concerned about their jobs here on Earth, rather than worrying about exploring other planets. American exploration of Mars began in the late 1990s, and since that time, the United States has sent eight different vehicles to the Red Planet (Kluger 24). All of this exploration has been very expensive for the American taxpayers. Recently, the idea of privatizing the business of sending cargo and astronauts into low-earth orbit has become a reality.
With the recurrent expansion of scientific knowledge and technology in today’s society, new inventions, theories, and ideas are frequently brought into practice. All though new technologies and advancement in understanding of the world around us is crucial to scientific expansion, the outcomes of these ideas aren’t always positive. Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and the original practices of Eugenics both serve as correlations to vast and ever-growing scientific universe. These two works can be related in their ability to serve as sources of caution during innovation of science. Nevertheless, both Frankenstein and Eugenics can also be dissimilar from that of one another.
These conflicting views on technological advances in these novels can be related to the modern age that we live in today. Yes, there are numerous benefits to technology, but we humans cannot allow ourselves to become dependent on technology. The benefits are related to The Killer Angels: technological advances have helped make our lives much easier. For example, with the internet, we no longer have to painstakingly research information from books. The dangerous prospect of humans becoming too dependent on technology is seen in Jurassic Park.
I believe radiation is slowly changing the world as we know it. Although it can be harmful or even deadly; scholars have come to recognize that the benefits greatly outweigh any contributing negative factors. Studies involving radiation have already brought so many more solutions into the equation, cancer being the largest on the scale. Further studies will hopefully shed more light on the unknown and provide us with even more treatment types. Only time will tell, but we are constantly on a hunt for knowledge, so I believe radiation will continue to play a major role in our world’s future
