SOUTH PARK: NOT ANOTHER CARTOON FOR KIDS Created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone in 1992 and aired on Comedy Central since 1997, South Park is one of the most successful cartoons and TV series ever made. Unlike other animated programs, South Park is considered as an adult sitcom and extremely inappropriate for children due to its strong profanity and filthy language. However, the apparently nonsense cartoon has found its own way into audience’s hearts and accordingly proves the genius of its creators. Source:Google Images The ongoing narrative of the show revolves around four school boys Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski, Eric Cartman and Kenny McCormick in South Park, Colorado. Stan is portrayed as an normal, average American fourth grader. Eric is an obnoxious, annoying, racist and obese kid who rivals Stan’s Jewish best friend, Kyle. Kenny comes from a poor family. He always wears a very tight parka which covers most of his face and makes his speech indecipherable. In the first five seasons of South Park, Kenny would die tragically in almost every episode with Stan or Kyle shouting “Oh my god, they’ve killed Kenny. You bastard” afterwards. His trademark deaths as explained by the creators was “ because he’s poor”. The boys’ adventures in the little Colorado town are full of bizarre events from alien visiting, genetically engineered evil turkeys to Michael Jackson moving in town. With 247 episodes, 17 seasons and 1 movie, the program has attempted to cover and satirize a wide range of topics including abortion, celebrities, homosexuality, censorship, drugs, environmental issues, religions and politics. Unlike other animated shows that are created months before their air date, each episode of South Park is put together in a matter of days so it can reflects recent events like the presidential election, the Iraq War, Facebook, the endless battle between xBox and Play
