Josh Turro Intro to Philosophy April 13, 2013 Term Paper One of the big unanswered questions in life, do we as human beings truly have souls? This particular question raises a lot of eyebrows in the world and has made people really think about the deeper meaning of what it may pose. There is no right or wrong way to answer this mainly because we won’t know until death whether our soul lives on or even if we have a soul to begin with. Originally a soul was described as a person’s inner being that is basically being used to store all their lifelong experiences even after death. Music is a great thing and can provide some great feelings and really sets the mood in social situations. This is why I believe this premise is plausible; there are many genres in music these days some include rock n roll, pop, jazz and one that really can relate to this argument which is soul music. Soul music bases its lyrics and tunes off of what they believe can enhance and enrich our souls, along with their own beliefs incorporated into the songs with beats that anyone can jam along with. One musician who always has stuck out his head and jammed to his own beat was artist Jimi Hendrix, he was by far in my eyes the best guitarist every to walk the earth. Listening and watching videos of his live performances really got my soul screaming out to his irresistible lyrics, he put all his heart and soul into his lyrics. The only thing I can say is listen to “All Along the Watchtower,” and really listen to his lyrics deeply not just his words but the hidden meanings he portrays. Although soul music has a huge influence on how I perceive a strong soul there is the objection that music is merely a hobby or something to do in order to surpass the time. Some people believe there is too much music out there that is vile to the human mind and somewhat can “control” how an individual acts. These objections do stand true in some senses but it all depends on the person who is listening to the music and the saying mind over matter defeats any possibilities of letting something merely as a song to control a person. As I stated numerous time having a strong mind then one must possess a stronger soul, the three work together to form the basis of who we are as a person. On the other hand some may get more soul out of country or rap music, the bottom line is that music does really lighten our souls and can have a rigorous effect on how we perceive certain aspects of
