Because of these rules and this large separation, people would feel a lot of shame for doing things that was against their religion. Shame by Salman Rushdie is a book that portrays how shame negatively impacts a person’s life. Firstly, Omar Khayyam Shakil, the son of the three sisters, felt shame for being raised by three mothers who were pregnant before they got married. He also did not know who his real mother was or who his real father was. Secondly, the main character had three mothers that happened to be sisters.
Many men fell for this and in my opinion she became very powerful in a sense. I believe Cathy was a very selfish character. While reading East of Eden I thought that she might have had mental problems. I was furious that she tried to kill her baby and later on lied about why say tried to do such a thing. Then when she gave birth to her twins sons, she acted as if she did not want them and I believe that Cathy was selfish was because she shot her husband in the shoulder.
“Chuffing me off like a Jew / … to Dachau, Auschwitz, Belsen” describes her difficult and harsh life and the obstacles she had to face while living with her father. Even though her father and she did not have a good relationship, she still “[prayed] to recover [him]” showing her love for him and when she tried to commit suicide she thought she would get “back to [him]”. Further more, Sylvia Plath suffered from a syndrome called Electra complex, which is
Also that she needs to stop trying to be who she is not. Her mother chose this advice because Birdy is always saying that she wants to be something that she's not. For example, What page is when she says the hobbies she wants to do? What page did she say the she wants to be lower class? Her mother also told her this advice because she has to get married but she is rejecting every guy and is always complaining about it.
She felt, however, that she could not go on such a journey by herself. Before her close relationship with Jake, she was scared of her father, “i do what i’m told to avoid getting hit”. This statement is contrasted remarkably with the way that she feels after her mental transformation. Jake was the catalyst in Lucy’s transformation. She alway’s had the strength to find herself but she needed someone to help her on her journey.
(p 484) But also the father feels guilty when he wants to have a cigarette. The mother of course is hysterical and invoking god she blames herself. The author does not tell you what the mother was doing when this accident happened. Perhaps this doesn't matter, and he
I told my mom when I got back from the doctor. It was really hard to tell her because I told her I was only going to have one kid. When I did, we cried together, and then I told her what I wanted to do with the baby and she supported me 100%. She knows what a hard time I had with my son and she did not want to see me go through that all over again. It took me a while to call the numbers, but when I did I was really scared and nervous.
Perhaps, because she saved one life, the rest would have to fall. Her actions led to terrible suffering for Creon and his family; almost like a curse. Haemon, her fiancé, was so in love with her that he actually fought with his father, the King, for her rights. When he could not do anything about Antigone being buried alive, he stabbed himself out of grief for his love with Antigone and anger towards his father. Because of the son’s death, Creon’s wife, too, killed herself out of grief.
At home, her father, T Ray is very abusive, mostly verbal, but at times there were some physical moments. As a child, T Ray told Lily that she had murdered her own mother, and that her mother didn’t love her and was abandoning them both. Lily didn’t really completely believe her father, but she did question whether it is true or not. All Lily knew she could do was run away, and start a new life. So, that’s exactly what she did.
Does her inner power stem from her horrible situation in childhood? Because she was an orphan and she had to take care of herself to survive the aggression from her cousin and her relatives always bullied her? Her aunt couldn’t stand her, she behaved unjustly and prioritized own children. She couldn’t understand why Jane is so savage and rebellious, but she wanted only better treatment and her independent soul couldn’t deal with it. However at the time Jane was ten years old, she opposed her evil aunt Reed and she told her what she thought about her despotic upbringing.
