Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong era. My favorite place to be is Hot August Nights in Reno Nevada. It is the biggest celebration of the 50’s and 60’s I have ever seen. There is something about the atmosphere the classic cars and trucks, the retro style of clothing the vintage music ; auctions and controlled cruises that just makes me feel at home. There are so many activities that even if you stay for the whole week you would not be able to see all the events. People come from all over to participate, show off, and enjoy the sites and festivities. The classic cars and trucks are the biggest attraction and a definite favorite of mine. I like watching everyone get ready for another day as they take off the car covers and dust off the dirt from the previous day. Observe as they wipe off stray prints should someone have been brave enough to touch the vehicle. The smell of the tire shine they use on the tires to make them look new. When everything is finally done everyone is ready for another dayThere is row after row of some of the most beautifully restore and maintained cars in the country. Another captivating aspect is the people and seeing how thoroughly involved they get into the theme of the 50s and 60s. The smell of hair spray the women use to keep their different hairstyles intact such as the beehive mingles with the smell of the hair gel the men use to keep their pompadors and duck tails looking just so. You can still smell English leather on some of the real die hards. I love the interesting clothes they wear the poodle skirts with petticoats the saddle shoes and bobbie socks and for the men white t-shirts with the sleaves rolled up and the black leather jackets paired with the dungarees .
