Gatsby on the other hand is rich but was poor so he was raised with morals. He would never do that to Daisy and loves her so much. Nick is just disgusted in Tom for how he is. He doesn’t understand how Daisy and Tom stay together just because they are rich. He believes you should be together for love and happiness not for just being comfortable.
The essential concept of the American dream is to offer citizens a nation that provides liberty, peace, and happiness. In fact, the initial concept of the American dream promised no guarantee about physical materials, such as money, houses, or luxury goods. In the modern society, people are striving for more and more material wealth, and they somewhat ignore the moral and social reasonability associated within their social duty. “In America, a sense of quality has lagged far behind a sense of scale” (Shames, 92). As a result, many people have to face many unwanted outcomes while attempting to move forward on the path of never-ending material demands.
Most millionaires live well below their means. That is precisely why they are millionaires. Most people who earn high incomes are not rich, and they fail to accumulate any lasting wealth. They spend their money as fast as they earn it. In order to accumulate wealth, the authors suggest that people need to play “good offense.” You must budget, budget, and budget.
By only donating money that we spend on things not necessary to survive we are still able to live a life that is comfortable and the idea of rich and poor people can be thrown away. Though this could probably only be achieved with government intervention, the possibilities are endless. Of course a big downside to this idea is the fact that we work hard for our money. It can seem like a waste to give it away after we work long and hard to obtain it. Another con is that after living with an excess of everything for so long, the people who are most prosperous might not be as willing to give it up.
Good VS. Evil “Money doesn’t buy happiness.” A saying many non-wealthy human beings say just to make them feel better about their self-esteem. But it seems odd that in this book “The Great Gatsby” money evolves around love. The two main characters Gatsby and Tom, theyre love Daisy is only interested in them because of theyre wealth. So this quote has no meaning because money did buy them happiness or at least for Tom it did.
Having large amounts of money is not a purpose in that of itself, because you have done absolutely nothing with it. Having large wealth is merely another possession, and possessions don’t normally contain a purpose. Using the wealth you have accumulated to bring your family comfortability and financial security for generations is a purpose. One may argue that obtaining large amounts of material items, and living a luxurious lifestyle is a purpose, but honestly, who is your purpose benefitting? You don’t have to save the world to be a success, but if you only benefit yourself, who are you a success
If a wealthy person wants to give some of his wealth to other people, then that is his right. However, the act of a government taking his wealth to redistribute it to those that did not earn it is nothing more than the actions of looters. The current attitude of the American people is nothing more than the indolent masses leeching off the labor of the hero capitalists via confiscatory taxes and social transfer programs. These looters and moochers take the wealth that they never earned. Money and wealth are virtues, and the man who has them is virtuous.
The book is a revelation on how thing was in the roaring twenties and the attitude of rich people. The American Dream was a corrupted dream and people forgot about the spiritual value of money. How you obtain your wealth is important idolizing something and someone will take away the ability to have control. Lying, crime, and being deceitful can lead to death Gatsby was a confidence man with his life that was superficial and morally degrading. In the end the price was paid he was better of just being
The greed that people have is one of the themes in The Devil and Tom Walker. People are willing to wage just about anything to make quick, easy, money. Back then, not a lot of people had money so it was like a treasure everyone envied. Even though in today’s society we like to say, “Money isn’t everything” we all know it’s a great proportion of everything. If we start looking toward romantic and transcendentalist ideas maybe that will change though I highly doubt it.
That could possibly be anything including money. Greed is not a good quality and being greedy is not something we would want to be described as. When somebody is described as greedy, we often imaging a rich person who just can’t get enough money in his hands. Greed is usually frowned in advance and often makes people change into something different worse than before. we do not usually see a greedy person that is not selfish.
