If Truman hadn’t used the bomb the general public would’ve questioned why he wasted so much money and so many American lives by not using the only weapon that could end the war quickly. This would also effect his impression of him to the Americans. Truman could have been convinced that the atomic bomb would not have much of an after effect according to a letter to the President from the US Government War Department: “The bomb has no after effects that we know about, although we are not sure with such a new type of weapon.” This shows that the president did not know there would be such a significant after effect. This reason might have also helped with the decision because Truman did not think that there was going to be an after effect that would affect the future generations of Japan. The bomb dropped on Hiroshima was clearly for trying to stop the war, but according to a booklet published by the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament in 1985 the bomb that was dropped on Nagasaki was just an experiment to try out the second type of atomic bomb the scientists had
Asian Carp Invasion David Long University of New England The United States Environmental Protection Agency recently began fighting an invasive fish called the Asian Carp. These fish are causing problems around the world destroying fishing industries and eco systems. There are four species of the fish, of the two the bighead and the silver carp are the closest to invading the great lakes. The bighead carp can grow up to one hundred pounds and the silver carp are known for jumping out of the water when frightened and scaring boaters. These fish pose a significant threat to the great lakes due to their large size and feeding habits.
c. In the 1930s, beluga whales had been killed along the St. Lawrence River by fishermen because they thought whales destroy the fishing industry. d. Arctic natives still have hunted belugas for food and other raw materials. It is important for their culture, but they have been killing belugas too much about 200 to 550 in Alaska and about 1,000 in Canada. 3. Environmental Hazards a.
Obama said Pakistan had provided some information leading to the raid. Critics have long accused elements of Pakistan's security establishment of protecting bin Laden, though Islamabad has always denied this. Ties between the U.S. and Pakistan have reached a low point in recent months over the future of Afghanistan, and any hint of possible Pakistani collusion with bin Laden could have major reverberations. Pakistan's foreign ministry said the death of bin Laden shows the resolve of that country and the world to battle terrorism — a resolve that has been frequently questioned by U.S. officials over the past decade. Pakistan's first official statement about the operation acknowledged that the raid was a U.S. operation but did not elaborate.
Way back then, people could not measure the possibility of colonies taking on the world’s largest empire. Paine tries to show them America’s size is not a disadvantage. By doing this, Paine adopts a two-fold strategy. Paine believed that if America would try and measure up to the expectation Britain has, that they could defeat the Britain. First, Paine argues that the colonies are not
In the case of Syria it would appear that “public opinion” is almost exactly the same as pre-world war two. Society can relate opposition of the public: the lack of credibility of the U.S. acting as the world’s policeman given it’s lies about Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction; the devastation and chaos left behind after the U.S./NATO bombing campaign; the abject failure of the Obama administration to make a convincing case to strike on Syria will do anything other than make the situation wore for ordinary Syrians (Ruder, 2013). Majority of society feel that as a nation, the United States have enough problems of their own to spend it on another country. Perhaps when a resolution can be carried out successfully to prevent the American government from shutting down, there can be the time to look upon policing of the
“North Korea also conducted rocket launches in 2006 and 2009. Both of these events were followed by nuclear tests, leaving many observers speculating about whether Pyongyang will attempt another one in the near future.” (Thai Press Reports, 2012) North Korea ignored resolutions passed by the UN proving that resolutions are opinions with no valuable substance and no control. There is much said but very little done; this goes with many of the political issues brought forth to assembly. In late 2012 North Korea launched a missile that caused controversy. “The UN Security Council has condemned North Korea's successful rocket launch, saying it violated a 2009 council resolution banning any launch using ballistic missile technology.
Federally Threatened (Similarity/Appearance) The American Alligator was listed as endangered in 1967 and removed in 1987. The current population is estimated to be 5 million across Southeastern United States, and roughly 1.25 million in Florida. The American Alligator is threatened by habitat loss and encounters with people. They are hunted for their skin and meat. Before hunting was controlled in 1970, an estimated 10 million American Alligators were killed for their skin.
The Consequences of Overfishing Overfishing has been identified across the world as a prominent environmental issue. Fish and other marine animals, such as sharks, sea turtles and dolphin, are retrieved from the oceans through indiscriminate fishing practices at a rate that cannot be sustained by natural reproduction (Jackson, 2001). Systematic overfishing with bottom trawling, dredges, and drift nets depletes the ocean of innumerable species at an alarming rate and alters the ecological balance in marine environments. The actions of shortsighted commercial fishermen have brought tremendous adverse environmental and economic consequences upon the entire world. The continuation of unrestricted fishing will worsen world hunger among impoverished coastal communities, many of whom depend on the abundance of fish to feed themselves and their families, and result in ultimate environmental chaos and the extinction of thousands of In recent years, the demand for fish, a healthy food rich in omega-3 fatty acids and lean protein, has sky-rocketed.
There are five main things that affect the ocean and harm it, Whaling, overfishing, factory fishing, global warming, and pollution. Every year the Japanese government kills mink whales. They kill at least eight hundred fifty of these whales. Factory fishing is also a major harm to the ocean. Factories create equipment that destroys species in the ocean.
