Many countries have imposed strict guidelines that make it difficult to adopt internationally. Many of these guidelines stem from negative experiences with adoptive families in the United States returning and harming adopted children without communicating concerns with caseworkers or adoption agencies (Odynova, 2010). This report focuses on strategies that will improve the success of international adoptions. It will address many of the obstacles workers must overcome during an international adoption, the importance of building positive relationships with agencies in other countries, and screening of potential adoptees.
