Honda. The name is enough. You all can associate some type of mental image to this word, whether it’s the famous logo or a specific car model. Honda can safely be characterized as one of the most well known automobile manufacturing companies. There is one man who is responsible for this successful company, however. This man faced many struggles, and he was rejected many times, but he kept going to make his vision come true. We are all here today to celebrate this great man. Soichiro Honda’s success story is not a well-known one; so today I wish to share it with you. I want to tell you about his life before, during, and after the establishment the Honda Motor Company and how his life can be compared to that of a balloon. Soichiro Honda was born in Japan in 1906. As a child, he worked with his dad who ran a bicycle repair business. He then went to Tokyo to work at an auto repair shop, and he started developing piston rings. He had to sell his wife’s jewelry to get the money necessary to develop the piston rings, but he thought it was worth it. On the side, he was designing racecars and he decided to participate in a car competition, but his car crashed and he was left with a fractured arm, dislocated shoulder, and a damaged face. A few weeks before the crash, he had sent in designs for the piston rings to Toyota, but while he was in the hospital, he found out that Toyota rejected the designs. At this point, the balloon lost a considerable amount of air. It was almost back to its original size. After recovering, he founded a company and things went uphill for a while, but after World War II and bombardment by America, Honda sold his company to Toyota and took a year off. The balloon just floated around for a while, with no air going in and none coming out. In 1946, the Honda Motor Company was finally created. The company first started out by selling bicycles
