Socrates and Martin Luther King “The Similarities and the Differences” Martin Luther King and Socrates differ in some ways but are a lot alike in other ways. One way they differ is their teaching style. Not to say that one method Socrates taught his pupils with words while Martin Luther King showed his audience with his actions. Martin Luther King was a very public and outspoken civil rights leader. He taught his pupils through protest and rallies. Socrates always his life to be more private The Differences: Socrates was never one to cause a scene but more of the one who made people think about what he was saying. I do not know how much he was actually in the public eye until he was placed on trial. At that time he really had no choice in the matter. He had a jury of 500 people and a room full of his accusers but talked to them as if he were having a conversation with a friend of his. He asked questions of his accusers before answering them. He had to fight the people who were manipulating . He also taught his pupils that way. He would ask them questions to make them think. This helped his student get to their own conclusions instead of him telling them what was right and what was wrong. He wanted to teach his students because they wanted to learn from him. Socrates did not teach this way because he wanted to go against the social norm. He taught this way because he believed it to be right. Martin Luther King did things his way for the same reason. He did it because he felt it was truly right. Although the motive behind the teaching was the same as Socrates (justice), the methods in which Martin Luther King used sure were different. He felt that the more people he could get to go with him to where he was teaching, it would make for a bigger impact on the people he was trying to reach.
