The article continues on by trying to see what gangs are involved with and their progression of consuming or selling drugs and to sharpen their power to not only the society but to their competitors against the other gangs. According to the textbook, “for example, among California’s Chicano gangs,
Unethical Police Operations In recent years, police action became the view of the world, and in public eye. Every citizen within the U.S is not only worrying about protecting themselves and their family from criminals, but also keeps their eyes on an officer who supposed to serve and protect our citizen daily. This paper will discuss the use of firearms and a receipt of private information, which will also include the discussion of how citizens’ has the right to take advantage of by our policemen. Because of the entire significant differential, all citizenship must take action upon them to affirmative from physical brutality; information abused, and rights violations. Every conflict has its significant implications on administrative and departmental officer procedures.
What are some of the definitional issues of gangs that still plague law enforcement in the context of developing a national gang database? In respect to gang databases, what are Type I and Type II errors and how can they be dealt with? The definitional issues that are occurring are because every law enforcement agency defines gangs differently. For example California defines what a gang is differently than Chicago, Texas, etc. So when it comes to gathering data on a national scale, certain characteristics are not recorded state by state because their definition does not match other
1. I do believe CRASH is an important unit that needed to be created in order to understand how gangs worked from the inside. 2. There should not be a different recruiting or supervision of a unit like this because working a dangerous job like this calls for people that have been involved with crime in their past and already have an understanding of what it is like. These certain people also call for a great amount of street smarts to go along with their professionalism.
Findings from these analyses lend support to the enhancement model. In the structural equation model, prior delinquency led to association with delinquent peers as well as to gang membership, suggesting a social selection model. However, association with delinquent peers and gang membership led to later delinquency, suggesting a facilitation model. Neither the social selection nor the facilitation model fully accounted for these results, suggesting that the enhancement model may be operating. However, additional research is needed concerning the levels of delinquency before, during, and after gang membership in order to assess the adequacy of the enhancement model as suggested by our findings.
Author Peter Moskos took a different approach to writing a book about the police than most authors do. Instead of interviewing different officers form departments and believing all they have to say (because they never talk up stories or stretch the truth), Peter Moskos became a Baltimore cop and worked in the ghetto of the eastern district. In his book Cop in the Hood, he talks about the everyday struggles of being a cop and also talks about his personal view of policing and the academy. In the beginning of the book Peter talks about how useless he and other officers feel the academy is. He says that the sole purpose of the academy is “to protect the department from the legal liability that could result from negligent training” (22).
Criminal Justice Trends Evaluation Kristy Tillery CJA 384 April 16, 2012 Dr. Hector Garcia Criminal Justice Trends Evaluation The criminal justice system has been around for decades, convicting criminals for all the wrongdoing that he or she has committed. The way that the criminal justice system operates, has changed over the decades. This paper will discuss how the criminal justice system was, how it is today, and what it may be like in the future. The goal for the criminal justice system is to be fair but firm in letting criminals know that crime is not expectable and will not be tolerated. Criminal justice trends are almost the same to what they used to be.
They wanted to own their neighborhood since back then racism was a major issue , so there only option was to make illegal papers so they can proceed with their business on the streets. Nazario was known for his fake legal management that they use to hold down all their businesses. Although their money was coming from selling drugs, people didn’t mind because they were view to be good helpful men’s. Whenever there was a problem everyone came to Bodega for help. They knew that he had the power as well as the money to make them live
The never ending cycle of the “we got each other’s back” code leads to the tension between the two groups. Whenever a Soc or a Greaser saw a member of the opposing group, they instantly resorted to physically harming him. Gangs today do that as well. If a group of Crips see a Blood all by himself, most likeley they are going to go confront him. Hinton wanted to portray how people in gangs don’t hate each other, but in reality they just don’t know each other.
We face a problem of full accountability, many owners purchase weapons without thought of receiving training for or how to secure the weapon. It is proven that “cultural orientations condition individuals’ beliefs about risk through culturally partisan forms of trust” and that “The people they trust, naturally enough, tend to be the ones who share their worldviews” (Braman and Kahan 576). Gun owners and gun controllers continually profess to the need/no need of the weapons with the many excuses but when paired down to the most basic reasoning it is “that insufficient gun control will expose to many innocent persons to deliberate of accidental shootings; and that the excessive gun control will render too many law-abiding citizens vulnerable to the violent predations” (Braman and Kahan 577). The opposition to legalized gun owner ship responds to the claims of need with their own reasoning to remove all weapons with the exceptions of government officials by reiterating with the statement that “the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution is targeted towards
