Distracted Driver: Do Distractions Affect Driving Video Game Scores? RESEARCH PAPER Chase Coffey Mr. Matisco / 7th Period September 17, 2012 Why this project will be useful: You read it everywhere, see it on the news… cell phone use and driving an automobile do not mix. People are dying on our roadways all because they simply cannot drive from one place to another without using their phone during the commute. By using a video game such as Mario Kart on the Wii, a game that most school children love, a deeper interest into this subject will most likely be attained. Research: There are many websites that discuss driver inattention which is defined as a driver being drowsy, engaging in secondary tasks (such as talking on a cell phone), not paying attention to the road ahead, and looking away from the road.
Today’s media, be it in print, on the television, internet, or talk radio, plays a major role in the American political system. The media is owned by several companies and is out to make a profit. Some of these large companies are CNN, FOX, NBC, various talk radio programs, and popular items in print from Newsweek, The New York Times, The Washington Post, etc. These media outlets are all influenced by many sources, as are our top political figures. It seems the media is growing more powerful with time which is, in my opinion, both good and bad.
Procopio says “Instead of patting ourselves on the back for our victory, the College Republicans continued with business as usual following the debate. Just as all clubs on campus are required to do each semester, we did a service project being Operation Christmas Child. We filled shoeboxes on Wednesday with items donated by our College of Representatives, including toys, notebooks, toothbrushes, and other items. While much of what we do as a College of Representatives chapter is politics related, it was great to come together in service ahead of the Christmas season.” Overall, both political parties had much success during the student debate, and in the eyes of both political parties, they won. Kessler says “I enjoyed the debate, and was very interested in what each of the parties had to say in response to the questions.
Kaylea Maskel March 2, 20121 English 101 Michelle Bush Literary Analysis In Amy Goldwasser’s writing “what’s the matter with kids today?” She argues the mass media view on kids and the internet and technology however she agrees that nothing is actually the matter with kids today. Goldwasser states that once adults and any other critics stop treating the internet as a villain, we all can accept it. Teenagers today read and write for fun, spending nearly 16.7 hours a week online (Goldwasser 237). More than 33 million Americans are affluent in texting, emailing, blogging, and IMing, INCLUDING OLDER AMERICANS. In Goldwasser’s eyes “teenagers have the potential to become the next great voices of America.” Before the written works even begin, there is a bolded response answering the title, “What’s the Matter with Kids Today?” Goldwasser’s response is as follows: Nothing, actually.
Outside of the realm of government if we look at our society today many of our moral have changed. This is evident in with the mass media. Parents have to be vigilant in the kinds of information their kids are receiving. Things that were frowned upon years ago are now re-staged as something good. I went to my daughter schools last week and was taken aback to see kids, as we would call it “making out”, in clear view of everyone to see.
Introduction In the United States, school shootings seem to occur more than ever in the last two decades. Before many of the newer generations were born, students and their parents never had to worry about whether or not someone would attack a school; however, it seems as if certain people in society find joy in committing violent acts, especially in a school environment. Between 1996 and 2012, the United States has had a total of 41 school shootings (Statistic Brain Research Institute, 2013). School safety is a major concern for each student and their parents, but how can we achieve this safety, as well as keep children focused on their academics? Before dealing with their education and how they’ll become successful, we must analyze how we
There were stories from last year and years back about cyberbullies and how this issue is raising eyebrows due to it being a deathly problem. From what the news or media has talked about it, it is widespread and with all the social media sites online today it is as easy as working from home to bully. When I grew up there was the bully at school, he or she bullied at school, maybe the bus, but after you went home that was it and that was the norm. As a kid you get used to it, the other kid moves on or the both of you grow out of that stage and all is well. Today, however that is not the case and anytime kids and or young teens are dying due to bullying an all out resolution has to be reached.
Social norms are what keep a society running smoothly on a daily basis. But the question remains, what happens when a norm is broken? Cutting in line has been an unspoken law since kindergarten, so I wanted to see how grown men and women would react to being “cut”. I went into my friendly neighborhood Safeway on a Thursday night, and as usual the lines were ridiculous. I used to work at this particular store, so I spoke to all of the employees and the manager about my social experiment so that I wouldn’t get in too much trouble.
He voices his opinion on how high school was, how high school is now, and how it could make or break your next four years from all the upsets, hardships and bullying. Fifty years ago, things were way different than how they are today. Kids had to go to school and were respectful to their peers or they would get in a huge amount of trouble, kids were expected to help their parents around the house or does some yard work outside. Nowadays kids do nothing and expect so much in return. If they do not get what they want when they want it, usually they will pitch a fit or they will not speak to their parents and the end result of that situation is the kid ends up getting it.
I love sports and I love the feeling of helping people when they were hurt. So the next two year of high school I took on some more duties. I helped with football, basketball, and soccer. My last year of high school was the best and that is because I got to go with the junior varsity football team by myself and I got to tape all of the players. In high school I got to meet many of people that were with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (F.C.A) and every Thursday morning at school they would be in our library for the ones that wanted to come.
