Even though they both came from England, they ended up evolving into two different societies because of geographic, religious, social, and economic differences. The region of the New England and the Chesapeake were different in geographic relations. For the settlers of the New England region they wanted there area to be very organized, as for they can fit everybody into their towns (Doc D). These towns that the settlers created were to contain about forty families, for both the rich and the poor. They had trouble with plantations due to the fact that they had rocky soil and the harsh winters.
In a country that prides itself on nationalism, the poor mistreatment of Aboriginal people in their communities does not express the idea of Canadian equality. “Popular usages of race have been based on the assumption that a race is a grouping or classification based on genetic variations in physical appearance, particularly skin colour” (Murry, Linden, and Kendall, 2014, p.274). Race minorities like Aboriginals are already at an unfair disadvantage because of being a minoritiy in Canada. A majority has the option to abuse its power or help those minorities, making equality possible (Murry.2014, p.276). People stereotype a whole minority as one type of people even if its not true (Murry, 2014, p.277).
The four groups were Brahim, Ksatriya, Vaisya, and Sudra. There was also another group, but they are considered not worth to be mentioned and they were the “untouchables.” The Brahim section of the caste system was the highest group of this class system. They were the priests or teachers of their Hindu religion. The Ksatriya were the warriors and rulers. The Vaisya were the farmers and merchants.
Minority religious communities were allowed to maintain their religious, social and legal structures, but were often subject to extra taxes or other measures and being discriminated against. As non-Muslims, they were subject to some legal restrictions and be denied participation in their government. The Ottoman Empire was a powerful state from the sixteenth century until the
They had different religious views, governments, and economies. Intro is too short. More background information on the time period is needed. While the Chesapeake was mainly based on land and slave ownership, the New England colonies were based on religion. They were primarily Puritan, or Non Separatists, and were radical, or intolerant to other religions.
Although many different religions were explored in the colonies such as the many Protestant religions, the Anglican dominance stayed amongst in the colonies. Give an example of the different religions explored vs. Anglican. One can see as they explore the various colony lifestyles, that many colonies focused on economic prosperity reverted to the traditional Anglican religion lifestyle, while other colonies focused on religion prosperity. Both British and new Colonial exploration of religions dominated the
In 1861, Charles Colcock Jones, Jnr stated “In this country have arisen two races [i.e. Northerners and Southerners] which, although claiming common parentage, have been so entirely separated by climate, by morals, by religion, and by estimates so totally opposite to all the constitutes honour, truth, and manliness, that they cannot longer exist under the same government.” (1). The American Civil War was one of the most climactic wars of the 19th century. It was a result of two countries, incised from one another over their own differing socio-political views, over their different ideals, fundamentally different cultures, and even vastly divergent dialects; two separate civilisations that came to an abrupt head after over half a century of friction. These differences were deep rooted; so deep rooted in fact that even during the foundation of their country during the Revolution, troops in the North and South distrusted each other even more than they distrusted the British.
Jeff Badu History 281 Section AD1 2/4/13 Paper #1 The Pursuit of Power In the book Whiteness of a Different Color, Jacobson made a strong argument on how race was not only something biological, but a social construction and a forever evolving, unstable process. This means that the color of your skin did not necessarily define who you were, but how society viewed you based on your appearance and actions determined your race. Also, different people such as the Irish faced different obstacles throughout different times in order to gain their citizenship and be socially accepted as “white”. Jacobson’s book does not support the idea that all immigrants encountered the same obstacles with the different examples he provides and the term “whiteness of a different color” refers to how different racial groups were fighting in order to be considered white. Different racial groups had to struggle throughout different time periods in order to gain their “whiteness”.

Many of these acts proved to be failures, and left conflicts unresolved. The Allotment Act of 1887 was passed to provide each family of tribal members 160 acres of land in hopes for assimilation with the non-Native Americans. This act ended in failure with poor planning, and no effort with teaching Natives how to cultivate land like White homesteaders in order to survive. Later, this resulted in many White landowners taking possession of these lands. The few Native Americans that managed to keep their land, the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), a federal government committee, served as trustee and held the legal titles over these lands.
