Social Responsibility - Community Profile Community refers to a social unit sharing common goals and values with beliefs, preferences, intentions, and resources that identify to community. As individuals, we a part of a family, we are neighbors, we are part of a city, state, county, region, and part of the world as a whole. As individuals, we have personal responsibilities or duties to communities to uphold the beliefs, preferences, intentions and resources of the communities we live in. “Why should I help the community? What has the community ever done for me?” Many make this common complaint when the community solicits volunteers for community service and when the community orders us to pay taxes to support various community initiatives. It is inconsistent on the one hand to accept the assistance of the community via schools, police, fire, roads, bridges, Internet infrastructure, a fair business environment in which to compete, and so on, and on the other hand to deny to a reciprocal duty to give back to that community. Community membership is both a great enabler of personal liberty and a hindrance on personal liberty. One cannot have the one without the other (Boylan. 2009. pg 26).” Each community is culturally diverse and contains a mix of values and beliefs. This paper will explore five different communities comparing the differences and similarities and evaluating the effects of the social responsibility efforts in each community. Sara and Linda both come from a larger community with residents totaling over 100,000. Sara comes from Sacramento, California, the largest community out of everyone in the group and Linda is from Cape Coral, Florida. Both communities have a higher average income as well and the majority of its residents are white. Linda mentions her home town is the second lowest crime rate in the state of Florida
