Social Media Facebook has over 500 million individual users, if it were a country it would be the third largest in the world. This displays how important social networking has become in today’s world. A social network is a social structure made up of individuals or organizations, which are connected by one or more specific types of interdependency, such as friendship, kinship, common interest, financial exchange, dislike, sexual relationships, or relationships of beliefs, or knowledge. Social networking was first spawned in the early 1990’s. The more prominent leader at that time was America Online, due to the fact that members could make their own profile, contact other members, etc. Social networking really got a boom in the early twenty first century with the development of Friendster, LinkedIn, and the dominant Facebook of today. Today social networking affects millions of people on a daily basis. Social networking websites are overall good for the society of today’s globalized individuals. Social networking allows individuals to meet new diverse people and create relationships, it can be used as a tool to improve business/ professional aspirations, and can be used as an extremely powerful tool for social changes across the globe. To begin, social networking allows individuals to meet new diverse people across the globe, interact, and create new relationships with one another. Social networking sites allow people a plethora of options to connect with others, whether the individual uses it to meet other people or to “reconnect with friends and family.” ( This is a very useful tool in the ever changing landscape of the world’s fast paced society.
