Social networks are a silent addiction! Teenagers are losing themselves online, suffering from self-disclosure communication, mental health and depression. Continuously checking on Twitter, Facebook or other social networks updates, it triggers the addiction parts of their brains, and as a result this could damage other valuable activities such as focus on schoolwork, studying or participating in sports (Raise Smart Kid).Firstly, addiction is one of the reasons why teenagers have negatively changed their behavior, as they are full of stress, becoming angry easier, feeling depressed and most importantly destroying their relationships with their friends and families. There is hardly any concentration skills required in participating in these social networking sites, and these train the brain to have a poor attention span (Raise Smart Kid).Also, teens find difficulties from learning to communicate in society. There is evidence from teacher’s reports that, teen’s comprehension levels are negatively affected from social networking. If teens mainly communicate through the screen, they don’t learn the meaning of real communication, for example body language, tone of voice, emotional expressions, etc. Thirdly, social networks make teens more self-centered. As teenagers have the opportunity to have their own page which is focusing on them, it makes them feel that everything revolves around them, this leads to emotional problems in their later life and inability to empathize (Raise Smart…show more content…
This is a serious brain illness and there are two types that can be faced. First, is the “mania” with bipolar disorder by which teens go through mood changes as they feel very happy and are more active than usual. On the other hand teenagers can face “depression” with bipolar disorder by which they are sad and are less active than usual. The symptoms of bipolar disorder are not the same as the normal ups and downs, it is more powerful. This illness is very dangerous for a teen, because it can create other problems such as Substance abuse, Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD, Anxiety disorders, like separation anxiety and other mental illnesses, like depression. (Bipolar Disorder in Children and Teens) Addiction of social networks play’s with teenager’s mind, and makes them unhealthy in comparison between themselves and others. As a result they have the feeling of lower Self- Esteem and Poor body image.
