Social media is described as means of electronic communication on the Internet such as, social networking, media sharing, and blogging communities. The website for the Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary (2012) describes social media by stating that Internet users “create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content,” such as videos. Knowing the different between different types of social media networks can help understand all of the benefits each has to offer.
The first form of social media that comes to mind is social networking or a personality-based social media platform. A great example of a social networking site would be Facebook or MySpace. These particular platforms are used to stay connected, or re-connect with family members, long-distant friends, and other acquaintances.
