Renay Peckoo Mr. Stulmaker Sociology 151 September 29, 2011 Expository Paper on Social conflict theory Hughes and kroehler the authors of “Sociology the core” define role conflict as “the situation in which individuals are confronted with conflicting expectations stemming from their simultaneous occupancy of two or more statuses.” In the text Hughes and Kroehler talk about Karl Marx theory of “The Role of Class Conflict” which is the basic principles of history on the economic environments in which societies develop. Nevertheless, Karl Marx focused his search for the basic principles of history on the economic environments in which societies develop. Marx believed that “society is divided into those who own the means of producing wealth and those who do not, giving rise to class conflict.” (Hughes and Kroehler) Personal life experiences dictate me to believe this theory is true. Social conflict can be seen all over the world where we live for example in sports, politics and normal social engagements. The main point I have experienced with this theory would be the fact that I did not come from a rich, powerful, and prestigious family, which in turn limits my chances of getting everything I need. Marx studied social conflict and he wanted to reduce social inequality. The social conflict theory can be described as preference. Society tends to show favoritism to the respected members of people in society. Social inequality is shown throughout the world through race, ethnicity, gender, and age. These factors may sometimes influence wealth, schooling and power. The social conflict views the patterns that benefit some people more than it would benefits others, due to their social standings. In addition to Marx he embraced the social conflict he made his main goal to not to understand society but at the same time to reduce social inequality. (Hughes and
