Behavior Change Contract Paper When I first read this week’s assignment it surprised me because I was already making a contract with myself to quit smoking. I currently smoke about a half a pack a day and I know that it is very unhealthy for me and the people around me. I currently just started a new job and do not have insurance at this time. The reason this is important is because I have tried to quit smoking on my own and failed too many times. With insurance I can get a drug called Chantix which helps blocks the sensors that make people enjoy smoking cigarettes.

In the beginning use of Meth there are not many changes in appearance, but within a couple months a person’s whole appearance can be changed. The body tends to get very thin, and for most people their skin starts getting picked at leaving open wounds. The appearance can change so fast that the person may not even be recognizable. Not only does the appearance change so do the mind.
One of the largest controversial subjects today is the debate on e-cigarettes and regular use of tobacco products (cigarettes). There have been many individuals that have decided to try these e-cigarettes to see if it would help them quit smoking traditional cigarettes. When an individual wants to quit smoking there are many ways that this can be done which include laying the cigarettes down and never picking them back up, going to a physician to see if medication would help or nicotine patches. However, with a lot of individuals it sometimes makes things more difficult than better. One thing that may make this difficult is the medication to help one quit smoking, For example, a medication that is sometimes used is Chantix.
You would think if I could fight a Heroin addiction, I can quit smoking. One thing that I know that would benefit other people if smokers quit, is second hand smoke. “Secondhand smoke is associated with disease and premature death in nonsmoking adults and children. Exposure to secondhand smoke irritates the airways and has immediate harmful effects on a person’s heart and blood vessels. It may increase the risk of heart disease by an estimate 25 to 30 percent…” If we could ban cigarettes all together, I bet the amount of cancer problems we have will dramatically lessen.
The health risk assessment that I chose to see my risk level was for lung cancer. I believed I would have a high risk for lung cancer because my past smoking habits and family and loved ones who smoke. I was also exposed to asbestos when I served in the United States Army from the old buildings which I thought would raise my risk level. The risk assessment made it clear to me that I need to have screening tests completed. Cancer is a group of diseases that all have out of control growth of cells in common.
I have a friend that has chronic pain (MS) and he lives some days not being able to walk and I know that when he smokes it helps lessen his pain. Medical marijuana can be used just like a prescription drugs and that is how it should be handled in the first place. With all the cons and how badly our country is in debt it would help we if we just decriminalized it in the first
