Smoking Ban In Britain

At the 1st July, 2007 a smoking ban came into effect in Britain. I have read three articles by three persons who have a different opinion about the case. In the first article “Benefits of smoke ban will be felt at once” Robin McKie describe some health advantages of the smoking ban. He describes the ban as a very good and possitiv law for England. He uses a lot of statistician to support his allegation about how great the health advantages are in relation to the smoking ban. We don’t know if he is a smoker himself. But we know that he is for the ban and thinks it will improve the national health in England. In fact he means that the health advantages will be felt at once, reference to the articles title. In contrast to Robin McKie’s article, A. N. Wilson is not so positive minded. A. N. Wilson thinks that the smoking ban will reduce the literary life in England. His argument for this is that all great present literary figures were smokers. He describes how the literary inspiration came from smoking and with imposition of the ban, he is afraid of it will put an end on the literary life in England. He also describes how the pubs start to be empty, because people rather will be at home being anti-social, but they can have their smoke. We know the writer is a smoker himself and therefore it could have an effect on his opinion. In the last article we hear the opinion of Simon Jenkins which is a none-smoker and hate smoke generally. But he still thinks the ban is a wrong decision. He doesn’t think it is up to few politicians to take that kind of decision in a matter there affects such large number of people. He means it is a local question, because the conditions can vary from place to place.
