Lori E. Miller English 102-47 Mrs. Vanderzell February 26, 2012 The Electronic Cigarette: Cure or New Form of Addiction We live in a world of advertisement and deceptive media that makes products appear to be healthier and more effective than they really may be. Advertiser’s associate products with qualities unrelated to the actual product like sexiness, success or status. For years the tobacco industry has sold us cigarettes by associating them with qualities like manliness and sophistication despite the emerging evidence that cigarettes are extremely harmful to our health and a major cause of cancer.. Hypnosis and Smoking Cessation The act of smoking cigarette is not only a key preventable risk factor of diseases, but a significant cause of undue mortality. Twenge states, “To many older people, it’s funny. But too many younger people the main consumers of the reality shows on, say, MTV it shapes their views of the world” (pg 7). Narcissism is shown often, and without hesitation on reality TV younger viewers are being conditioned by the depiction of narcissism. Slowly, the excess amount of narcissism seems normal. When going out on errands with his wife he reports that he becomes short of breath walking
Lighting up a joint is the path to ineffable pleasure for some; to others, it’s the first step on the road to ruin.” (Offbeat Marijuana p. 12). Many people very much wanted to try marijuana but feared the consequences, such as losing their jobs or status. College students upon discovering the pleasurable effects of marijuana shared those experiences with their parents, who often had similar reactions to this young American’s account, “When I first smoked marijuana in 1963, I was a student at Berkeley, and on my next trip home to Los Angeles, I told my parents about this fabulous discovery.
