Smart car values: Introduced in 1994 by Mercedes-Benz and SMH, the Smart car is a very environmentally friendly car (a growing movement/trend in society is to “go green”). It prevents against polluting with wastewater and solvents with features such as powder coating on a steel body, as the powder protects the steel from peeling. In addition, it has undercoat that is anticorrosive to degrading and oxidation. Furthermore, many people paint their cars when the original shade of color is chipped, fading, or weathered—with the Smart car, the need for re-painting or painting an extra layer is eliminated due to the pre-colored, molded plastic panels. In fact, customers can purchase interchangeable snap-on body panels when they want an entirely new color for their Smart Car. Not only does this stylish option save the time, energy, and money required in a new paint job, but also there is no additional damage done to the environment as a result of paint fumes and emissions. Another value of the Smart car can be its compact size. With dimensions of only 8’ x 5’ x 5’, it is great for urban use (ease of parking, etc.). Moreover, the Smart car gets nearly 45 miles per gallon, emits very little pollution, and up to 85% of the materials used to make the car are recyclable. A final value of the Smart car is its low price. Will the Smart car be a success in the United States? Although apparent that the Smart car is targeted to those consumers in metropolitan areas, I do not believe that this car will be a success to the rest of the country not living in cities. Those living in the city find the Smart car appealing due to its efficiency (great gas mileage to the gallon), low levels of emission, and compact size.
