INTRODUCTION I. How many of you think that nothing bad could ever happen to you? A. I never thought anything would ever happen to me either. B. That changed on March 23, 2010 when I walked into the doctor’s office and was diagnosed with skin cancer. II. Skin cancer is the most common of all human cancers. A. Some forms of skin cancer are diagnosed in more than 1 million people every year in the United States. B. According to eMedicineHealth.com cancer occurs when normal cells undergo a transformation during which they grow and multiply without normal controls. C. Knowing this small portion of information. Many people do not know everything they should about skin cancer. III. My goal today is to inform you on what skin cancer is all about. A. First, I’ll discuss what causes skin cancer. B. Second, I’ll tell you what to look out for and the symptoms of the disease. C. Finally, I’ll discuss various treatments. BODY I. To begin, I will talk about what causes skin cancer. A. Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States. B. According to Stanford medicine, Ultraviolet radiation from the sun is the main cause of skin cancer. 1. There are two types UVA and UVB. 2. Sunlamps and tanning booths which are artificial forms of UV radiation, can also cause skin cancer. C. There are many people who are at higher risk of contracting skin cancer. 1. Those people include people with fair skin, people who have already been treated for skin cancer, as well as people with close family members who have developed skin cancer. II. Now that we have covered the causes of skin cancer, let’s look at what it does to people that have it. The symptoms of skin cancer are clear in many ways. A.
