the play “Siri Sampige” by Chandrashekhara Kambara based on an Kannada folk tale about a prince who has a human and a serpent form. In the play the prince is in search of the perfect woman. Part of his search is the process, where he makes his relatives cut his body into pieces and put him into 7 pots which are supposed to stay unopened for a certain time. When they finally open the pots a snake appears out of one of the pots and disappears in the garden. The prince becomes himself again, but without a succes in finding his perfect mate, he has to marry Siri Sampige. Because of his disappointment he refuses to be with her and continues his search instead. A king cobra sees Siri’s pain caused by the rejection of her husband and therefore takes
