Loneliness puts The Monster in a mentally unstable position. He believes that he is a monster for the reason being he was created by one. In comparison, Othello’s betrayal is demonstrated throughout the play, but especially through Iago when he confesses to the audience his plan to manipulate and destroy Othello’s love life with Desdemona. Although Othello trusts Iago with anything, Iago hates the “Moor” and is willing to do anything to destroy him. Iago feels that the best way to do so is by manipulating Othello telling him that his wife is cheating on him with Cassio, who Iago coincidently hates as well.
Upon Malvolio’s entrance in Act II Scene V, Sir Toby states “here’s an overweening rogue!” (Act 2, scene 5, line 27) after plotting with Fabian and Maria to punish Malvolio, referring to him as a “little villain” (Act 2, scene 5, line 12). Upon his entrance in the scene, Malvolio states his ambitions for nobility, “To be Count Malvolio!’ (Act 2, scene 5, line 32) to the group. The disdain the other characters have for Malvolio throughout the play is only met with vanity, hubris and patronizing comments on Malvolio’s part, doing very little to conjure any remorse for the character following his downfall later in the play. Malvolio opposes the fun and festivities of the “Twelfth Night” and chastises the characters in the play several times for their celebrations. Malvolio questions their actions in the form of patronizing dialogue by asking “My masters,
Second, this shows that Tybalt was malicious when it came to the Montagues and he felt hate whenever he saw anyone of them. To sum it all up, Tybalt's unfriendly and resentful approach to the Montagues were one of the many reasons he bid farewell early in the story. Tybalt's turbulence was another one of the main reasons of his early termination in Romeo and Juliet. As an example, in the first act, Tybalt threatened Benvolio and said, "Turn thee, Benvolio. Look upon thy death."
Ender’s excellence brings a lot of torture for him when Stilson wants to overrule him, Bernard frustrates him and Graff uses his sister to break Ender down emotionally. To begin with, Stilson wants to hurt Ender because he thinks he was excellent if his monitor and which is taken off. “Oh, gonna fight me huh? Gonna fight me, Thirde?” (Card 7). In this quote, Stilson shows anger toward Ender who deliberately creates a situation to hurt Ender.
He talks to himself about many things, but the main theme is theduality in any situation, meaning how something bad can so easily be turnedto good, and vice versa. While he seems to be focusing his entire speech tohimself on this idea, Friar Lawrence so easily contradicts it only a fewscenes later, when he marries Romeo and Juliet. By marrying the youngcouple, Friar Lawrence is not even following his own ideas, because eventhough marrying Romeo and Juliet is a good act, doing it so hastily makes it abad one. This ties in to another, closely related one of Friar Lawrence’sideas, which is that a good action done in a bad way can form a bad action, ashe says: “Virtue itself turns vice, being misapplied…” (II.ii.17). This againshows that the good act of marrying Romeo and Juliet, if done wrong bydoing it too quickly, can become bad act.
Hamlet portrays falsity when using rage against Ophelia after discovering she has been apart of a plot of revenge. He uses this as an opportunity to deny his love for her and degrade her until she felt horrible about her self. “I did love you once but you should have not belived me; for virtue cannot so inoculate our old stock but we shall relish of it. I loved you not.”(3.1.114-119). It becomes clear that Hamlet did truly love Ophelia, yet hid it because he was a coward.
Macbeth being hesitant and indecisive allows Lady Macbeth to overcome and influence him to do any wicked deed. Lady Macbeth feels her husband lacks the drive and courage to go through with the assassination of King Duncan. She explains, “Glamis thou art, an Cawdor; and shalt be what thou art promis’d. –Yet do I fear thy nature: it is too full o’ th’ milk of human kindness, to catch the nearest way. Thou wouldst be great; Art not without ambition, but without the illness should attend it” (I.v.15-20) With this, she realizes that Macbeth is to laid back or nonchalant when he is not on the battle field.
Similarly in The Duchess of Malfi, when the Duchess’ attempt to deceive her brothers and conceal her marriage leads to her death. However self-deception is also a recurrent theme in both of the plays, in Othello, it can be argued that Othello’s self- deception proves just as destructive as Iago’s, as by deceiving himself of his true nature and labelling himself as “one not easily jealous,” he continually supresses his feelings of inner turmoil until he breaks under the influence of Iago. F R Leavis agreed with this stating, “The mind that undoes [Othello] is not Iago’s but his own.” The role of deception would be nowhere near as essential to the play without the influence of Iago; described by AC Bradley as the “artist of evil” his ruthless manipulation of the other characters in the play ensures not only the destruction of Othello, but his own. Self- deception plays a crucial role within Othello and The Duchess of Malfi; it allows the audience to see further into the characters personality and gain a deeper understanding of them as a character. Othello himself is the most palpable example of self- deception within the plays as from when the audience is first introduced to him in Act One Scene Two, he believes
Friar Laurence realises that Romeo is very hasty and quick in things, since Romeo had lost his love for Rosaline in one night. Therefore, he tells Romeo that he should slow down a bit. However, Romeo stood firm in his decision of loving Juliet. Friar Laurence quotes in Act II Scene III that, “Young men’s love then lies/Not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes.” This describes that Friar Laurence speaks wisely. However, Friar Laurence isn’t very clever when he tried to marry Juliet and Romeo.
Since Lady Macbeth set him up to this by insulting his manhood, Macbeth took a turn for the worst when he started experiencing fear and guilt. You’d think he’d put an end to all of this negativity by this point, yet it actually drags out and he continues with doing malicious, unlawful acts. Eventually this leads to more trouble for Macbeth; He begins to struggle with hallucinations and sleeplessness, causing him to become extremely paranoid. He began to lose his human qualities during this process of regaining his ‘so-called’ manhood, as his killing spree was pretty much a joke on his actual manliness. Macbeth’s decadence then led to his marriage to slowly fall apart.
