Middle Ages and Renaissance : Assignment 1 Sir Gawain and the Green Knight The Beheading and the Exchange of Winning Games The text of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight has two main games that basically helps in defining the major characters. The Beheading and the Exchange of winning Games had many similarities and differences related to participants , audience, rules, and the outcomes . Both games shared many similarities , such as being suggested as an entertainment that took action at the same time of the year which was the preceding days of the New Year . Gawain , the great knight of Camelot, took an equally huge part in both games . It is important to mention that both games involved killing . After every game , Gawain was the winner . In the Beheading Game he won king Arthur’s appreciation ,the opportunity to discover new things, meeting new people , and a visit to the Green Chapel . While in the Exchange of Winning Game he got everything the lord Bertilak de Hautdesert have hunted including the fox’s red fur and the belt from lord Bertilak’s wife . The difference of these two games are more than their similarities . Starting with the places they were initiated and the audience that witnessed the two events . The Beheading Game took place in Arthur’s court with spectators from different status . The nobility such as the King Arthur and his queen Guenevere, Agravain , the Bishop Baldwin and Yavin , son of urine. And the rest were the common people of the city . Whereas in the other game took place in the woods , were the lord had the ability to hunt . The first game was at first a challenge between The Green Knight and King Arthur , but Gawain realized how this challenge can be a major incident and have serious results , so he step up for the dispute after asking for
