The women’s trend being a primary breadwinner is increasing because the larger number of women are earning higher degrees and entering the workforce (Claire). Sarah Jane Glynn, an analyst with the Center for American Progress, told the Washington Post that the recent recession accelerated the trend. “Part of what’s happening is that more men have been getting laid off and are having difficulty finding work…And with the way the recovery’s played out, some men who lost their jobs wound up taking others that paid less,” she noted (Claire). With the rise of working women, it is beneficial for the family as they are contributing more income towards the family. In today’s economy, when the cost of everything is going very high, it is very hard to raise the kids and run the family.
Are You Proud To Be An American? It is a great privilige to be an American. We have many rights and freedoms that other countries don't have. Most of us have grown up taking these freedoms for granted. We need to remember how fortunate we are to be American citizens. In the United States, there is free public school education.
Week 7 PSY/201 Assignment: Testing Intelligence The intelligence test stated my score was 116 which it also stated that I was above average. I do feel the results were accurate because I am very comfortable with working hard for all my accomplishments like my life, career, family, school, and choices. With these scores I think my performance on the test was above the average population average which means I have the ability to achieve success in life. I also agree with the score because I think my skills are powerful when I apply my critical and logical thinking skills which were taught to me in my younger days as a child when I was at home by my parents and at school by my teachers. I do not believe the test was biased in any way which
They discover an opportunity to succeed as well as opportunities for material well-being .As Lazarus explain that “here at our sea-washed, sunset gate shall stand”(3).They view the New World as place to stay and get what ever they need, because they find hope in United States. Material wealth is not the only promise that will be met by the immigrants when they come to the New World. The New World promises equal job opportunities for the new immigrants. The new immigrants come to United States to find a job in order to get value for their Labor service. These immigrants view the New World as Land of opportunity .Ideally, the phrase “golden door” does not necessarily refer to actual riches, but to the opportunities afforded by the United States.
In the documentary Generation Boomerang, social scientists say the global phenomenon of young adults between the ages of 20 to 29 still living at home with their parents is the “new normal”. According to Jeffrey Arnett, a social psychologist in the documentary, society should embrace this longer road to adulthood as healthy and positive. He has coined the term “emerging adulthood”, which is an actual life stage between college and adulthood where they have the freedom to focus on their own development. He claims that they will have a better chance to happiness because their judgement is going to be better and they will have more life experiences in comparison to when they were 18-20 years old. I agree with Arnett that young adults’ long road to adulthood is healthy and positive because it provides them the opportunity to pursue their career, provides them the opportunity to take control of their finances, and it strengthens the family bond.
The United States was facing hard times in the jobs aspect. The poor were getting poorer and the rich kept getting richer. The poor people needed a way to make money, but jobs were scarce during these times. The opening of factories and maintenance facilities allowed for new jobs to open up, in large quantities. The inventions of many new tools, such as the lightbulb, the telephone, and the railroad system allowed for the Americans lives to be easier.
Industrialisation had lead to many families moving from agriculture into the big cities, this meant that more jobs were available, many of these being non-heavy manual labour jobs, many of the jobs in the agricultural sector were hard manual labour, and in this society were often seen as too strenuous for women, but after the industrial revolution a wider variety and larger quantity of jobs were now available. These involved many jobs in the Tertiary sector, jobs that could be performed just as easily by men as women. More jobs were also available for women in factories as well. So women went to work and families had more disposable income, which lead to increased spending on consumer goods. In the early years of the Post War Golden age “86 percent of households were wired for electricity” (Sandbrook, 2005, p.104).
Americans tend to blend love and happiness sometimes, which can be explained by the fact that from an early age on kids tend to relate the love and acceptance they receive from their parents to the success, i.e grades they have in school. This relation between love and success is also witnessed in religious environments. The fact that a person is accepted by God is often related to their bank account and grade of success. Not only would it be hypocritical to assume that we don’t need money and success to be happy and feel loved, but it would also go against the vision of the original American Dream, where thanks to hard work a family lives happily in the suburbs, have their kids go to college and have a car. But does money always bring happiness and love to people?
I am hoping that with the effort our military, and the other countries who had stood behind us, they are able to get Iraq in a good, democratic working order and our boys and girls are able to come home knowing they have done their best and have made the lives of those people better. What it boils down to be that now, what's done is done and with that being said, we need to make the best of it. While it seems we are only able to accomplish small missions at a time, a victory is a victory, no matter the size and that is a good thing. And those of you that like to make the remarks it was for the oil, do you research and find out where most of the US get its oil, top contributors are Venezuela and Canada. The military has never used Iraq oil for its own uses while being in Iraq.
Another reason why factory work is better according to me is the fact that if I worked in my own cottage, the income would be for the whole family ( the whole family earn a sum) but by working in a factory, we get paid individualy in the family which brings more money and of course if we have a cottage some merchants could actually mess of stock of materials. Also I think that work in the mines was most certainly not for the women. Working underground is not a good job for women. People hardly know what is going down there and the ceiling of the mines could collapse at any moment. We also have to consider the fact that it was physically tiring and when the women goes home after a hard day of labor in a dirty mine, she doesn`t really want to do anything else and that is bad because the family is expecthing her to cook
