Comparative Essay of Canada and Mexico Name: Jia Park Class: AE 1 Teachers: Alex and Geoff The date: November 28, 2014 Canada, which is in northern North America, and Mexico, which is in Middle America, are main countries besides the United States of America and are bordered by several oceans. There are both similarities and differences in their geography, culture, language, food and liqueur. First of all, there are some similarities and differences in their geography. Canada, whose capital city is Ottawa, and Mexico, whose capital city is Mexico City, are situated in North America. Also, they border the North Pacific Ocean to the west. However, Canada also borders the North Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Arctic Ocean to the north and covers most of the northern part of the North American continent. Its area is 9,984,670 sq km and the area of Mexico is 1,972,550 sq km. Therefore, Canada is about 5 times as big as Mexico. Secondly, there are some similarities and differences in their culture and language. In religion, most of people in both these countries are Christians. They, especially, belong to Roman Catholic. Looking at greetings, handshaking in both two countries is the most common form of greeting. By the way, unlike Mexico, Canadians(close friends) kiss on the cheeks in French-speaking regions of Canada. In terms of their language, both these countries use English. Nevertheless, English in Canada is the main language with French while English in Mexico is not a main language but is used extensively. The main language in Mexico is Spanish which is used for over 90% of whole population and about 8 % of it uses Natinate, the aboriginal language. Thirdly, there are some similarities and differences in their food and liqueur. People of both these countries usually eat seafood, beef and pork. On the other hand, Canada has a variety of food
