You see the real character in Madame Loisel when she goes through conflict. Madame Loisel changed after that conflict and from there on had better character. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Jem’s character is changed whenever Atticus is confronted by Mr. Cunningham and his “gang”. Jem was currently in a hiding place watching the action whenever he ran over to Atticus when it started getting tense.
Abigail Williams is an individual who deals with sexism. Abigail Williams is showed as not only the antagonist, but as the cause of many problems throughout The Crucible. One of the conflicts of the play is john proctor actions by cheating on Elizabeth with Abigail. Abigail is displayed as the cause of john proctor committing adultery against his wife. Abigail is also looked at as a “ problem” when she convinces the girls to join her to dance in the forest.
I noticed the greed of Mr. Putnam, the jealousy of Mrs. Putnam and the power hungry desire of the girls who are so used to being controlled in their lives. These unsavoury characteristics may have stayed hidden had the accusations never begun as a way for the girls to protect their reputations. As the conflicts festered, along with hidden resentment in conjunction with the hysteria of witchcraft, people began to attribute their losses and misfortune to the use of black magic by their neighbours. Once this started, the ripple effect, or guilt by association was dramatic. In the case of Salem, conflict did bring out the worst in people.
The cask of Amontillado is a story of murder and revenge, while Eveline is a story about dreaming of independence yet not being able to let go of old ways. In conclusion, these two stories have distinct similarities and differences. While the differences of each story are obvious, the most important aspect of these two stories is the similar fact that each offers an interesting critique on human behavior, specifically as it pertains to how we deal with old habit and also how humans desire
The authors, Caroline B. Cooney, Harper Lee and William Shakespeare wrote violence in their novels and games. Enter three witches, writes the author that people who do not like them and is angry perhaps meets a violent end. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Lee wrote that people who are racist are dishonest and possibly will also meet a violent end. Shakespeare also argues that people who do not, except that others will gather the tragedy. Cooney MacBeth uses to prove his thesis; then Bob Ewell Lee uses the character to prove its case, and Tybalt Shakespeare to prove his point.
In the 1690’s, the character of Abigail Williams would be dreadful and obnoxious. Her actions of adultery would deem her imprisonment not only for herself, but for John Proctor. It is her latter actions of perverting the court of Justice which would sentence her for imprisonment in the 21st century. Her criminal offence and her personality of being malicious and wicked, however powerful and mature, allow the audience to appreciate the story and realise that she is pivotal in the play. She is a character who appears in critical parts of the play, and adds crucial information by her language, gestures and actions.
Continuously throughout the text she performs acts of deception which tragically condemn others to death just to cover her lies. Miller exhibits that power lies with those who have people to impose it upon. This power is demonstrated most effectively in Mary Warren’s retraction in Act 3.
