Shepard Fairey first believed that he wouldn’t be able to go very far in this career as he was white, and didn’t come from the Bronx, but one of the things that influenced him was the movie “they live”, he was so influenced by this movie because of how much it was against advertising. When Fairey began this career he started off with illegal work and occasionally he got into trouble with policeman. As soon as his artworks became viewed as artworks and he started to become more known, Shepard Fairey began to be asked for his work and eventually have gallery exhibitions, showing the work that was once illegal. The way Fairey wanted to capture his artwork and display a meaning was to make art that didn’t have much explanation, in which this made the viewer of his art
After the war, German was highly isolated from the rest of the world because of the war. When expressionism first took off, it didn’t really spread as Germany was so disconnected from the rest of the world. However, also in the 1920’s Europe began to explore a new way of film making, and began to watch the new and strange films the Germans had been making. Although starting as an art form, film soon took over German expressionism and many filmmakers began interrupting their own views and feelings at this time onto film, in this way. After the war, Hans Janavitz and Carl Mayer, both shocked from the war that had just occurred, were both fantasied with psychoanalysis and this is when they began to write ‘The Cabinet of Dr Caligari’ (1920), a silent horror film, filled with key elements of an expressionism film of that era, and one of the first and finest.
A cultural dimension that influences how people manage conflict is whether their culture is one of low or high context. Michael Dorsey displays a low or individualistic culture in Tootsie. Michael is a very direct and tell-it-how-it-is individual in the movie. He does not agree with skating around the issues. As an actor, he feels that his audience should see things for how they really are, versus how the directors, screenwriters want the audience to portray them.
As we all know a huge part of a book is taken away when making movie, that is so the movie can make more sense. Well in the case of “Flatland” by Edward Abbott there are a couple of similarities and differences. The differences include the existence of area 33h, a riot was caused when the square revealed the existence of the third dimension, and the grandson of the square thought of the idea being merely foolish. Some similarities from both the movie and book would be the hypocrisy of the sphere when asked about the fourth dimension, the line king being scared when the square appeared, and the circles having the upper hand in flat land. At the beginning of the movie it is said that a secret monument in the center of flatland exist however
With watching the video, Alan was dreading the “employee’s evaluation from the very beginning, this was something he did not like doing. The case with Gretchen, he seemed to me to be in the attack mode. He was prejudging her as to why she was not turning the work out faster. As our text explains, “When we prejudge others’ communication, we sacrifice learning information and new perspectives that might enlarge our thinking (Van Styke, 1999). I believe Alan thought she was probably just being slack, in reality Gretchen was taking her time and getting the jobs done with high standards.
Johnson first realizes his love art when bud brings him a book of art. That book becomes a very important item in the movie because it had a great influence on Mr. Johnson. The art book was one of the main factors that created rebellion and chaos in Pleasantville because Mr. Johnson then created art as time passed he became colored. In Pleasantville, the “non-colored” citizens thought of the “colored” as tainted or impure. Because the “colored” were not like the rest, the people were prejudice and immediately thought that they were mischievous and would disregard their presence.
The changes were made from the movie since the director from the movie did not want to make the book and the movie to much similar to each other. The book Of Mice and Men written by John Steinback shows the struggle in the 1930’s. It tells how people are lonely and how they need a companion. The book and movie both show how reality was hard on lower class people. Of Mice and Men the book is better.
Both honest mistakes that he didn’t even know he made. The ignorance shown towards Lennie in the novel was due to the time period and the people’s lack of knowledge. People in the story like “The boss” just thought that Lennie wasn’t smart because he just didn’t talk much unless it was to his best friend George. There was ignorance in Raymond because his brother thought that he could remove Ray from his schedules at his home and take him with him. The Ignorance was that Ray needed those schedules or he will have a fit.
They kept re-running the footage to emphasize the tragedy and keep America’s focus, not so viewers that were just tuning in could see. Nobody wanted to state the obvious that, “We’ve Seen This Before” (140). The news footage looked like it was from a horror movie and because it was not realistic it made it seem like it was not actually happening in real life. Everyone is so used to seeing events like this in movies, but they are not used to it real
The consequences of the cold war and the emergence of the two super powers also made civil rights movement make little progress- the USA and USSR who were a threat to one another so because of such conflicts between the two there was regression of the civil rights movement. There were no well-known leaders in 1950-54 who were motivated and willing to make change and make civil rights movement’s progress. However after the Second World War people began to realise that a transformation was necessary so civil rights movement began to progress then onwards. Inspirational leaders including Truman Martin Luther King and Thurgood Marshall saw the incident of Rosa Parks and realised so Truman desegregated armed forces and improved aspects of life for the African Americans. The help of the NAACP also helped civil rights to progress because the group wanted to fight for the rights for African Americans.
