SILENCE IS VIOLENCE One would say that silence is golden. The question is “Why is it Golden?” If you want to chill out after a hard day at school or work and need that peace to rejuvenate, sure it is golden, but if you are the victim of domestic violence, then the silence is violence, and you live your life in constant fear of what will happen next. Why is there so much domestic violence? I can tell you in one word. “SILENCE.” As long as there is silence there will always be violence. I think we live in a dysfunctional society that promotes and instils into our head the importance of silence. No, not the true meaning of silence that gives you inner peace and a rest from the day to day activities, but the silence that leads to violence. Domestic violence is violence that happens within a house hold. We all know the different types of abuse that happen in the house hold, but do we care enough to be vocal, No we don’t we keep the silence. The partners, spouses, brothers, sisters, auntys, uncles and the really important victims, the children, continue the cycle of silence. What hope is there for the children? Who will be there voice? NO-ONE! Everyone speaks out after the fact when a child is murdered. They have so much to say about why it happened, how it happened, and make pitiful excuses for themselves and the role they played in this child’s life. Some even defend the abuser. How pitiful is that. We hear the news on the T.V and radio, read it in the newspapers another child dies, another spouse, another son or daughter dies. Then we hear about the years of abuse that these people have endured and accept, yes this is what happens and feel sorry for all the members of that family that have suffered alongside the victim.
