Lara Olson English 10 Seminar Mrs. Zavacki 20 March 2012 Almost everyone in the world knows about the Holocaust and how it ruined the lives of many. But no one knows the real horror brought upon the survivors until you read their true stories. The rude awakening of the memoir Night and the poem “Aftermath” show that even the kindest people can lose their sense of virtuous direction. Wiesel’s story about his experiences at the concentration camps grew more heartbreaking to read with every word. Wiesel wrote about how horrible it seemed to lose one’s innocence.
Applicable Theories of Criminal Behavior Social Risk Factors: He didn’t always live in poverty, but once his family wasn’t there he was in poverty. He also received rejection by his peers, when they often teased him because of his deformity. Parental and Family Risk Factors: His mother used a very authoritarian style to shape and control her sons. This caused irreparable damage to Gein throughout growing up. His mothers parental monitoring was too much, she never let Ed do anything and always kept him hidden.
The way Dahmer thought and reasoned is directly related to the experiences during his childhood and young adulthood. Dahmer never established a healthy relationship with either of his parents resulting in the disconnection he had with society. Therefore, the disconnect he had when killing and dismembering his victims. Dahmer craved the control he had when he drugged and killed his victim. This is due to the fact he never had that control of his own body as a young child.
This book will horrify, disgust, and inspire those who read Dave’s journey through the dark insanity of his mother. The outside world knew nothing of his living nightmare. I would definitely recommend this book because it shows the true emotion that he went through. However, this book has some very descriptive details on the abuse his mom did to him, and if you know you can’t handle it, then don’t read
Undoubtedly, the plague causes the disintegration of families in the town. By structuring her novel as a retrospective narrative that is our protagonist, Anna Frith describes of what had happened in the book, enables the audience to adopt the sense of doom and horrors occurred during the time of the catastrophe. We are exposed to pain and grief that Anna feels when she lost her children whom she ‘loved from the moment she first reached down and touched the crowd’ of her children because of the plague, which results in her ‘(fighting) the sexton when he came to take Jamie’s body away’. Brooks clearly demonstrates and explores that the crisis such this plague can destroy
He held one of his wives at gunpoint, and beat his wives often, one instance even being during the week of peace. Him being abusive caused him and his wives not to be as close, as they feared him. When Ikemafuna was stabbed in the back by a machete, he yelled out to Okonkwo to save him but in fear of looking weak (which comes from his issues with his father) in front of his friends he finished off Ikemafuna. When Okonkwo killed Ikemafuna, it had a negative effect on his family and in the long run lead to his alienation from them. Not only did Okonkwo’s outbursts lead to his alienation from his family, but also from his community.
There is nothing good about war, especially for soldiers, civilians and families. People feel the effects long after the war is over, because of the traumatic experiences. The worst acts of dehumanization during wars are the ill-treatment of the soldiers in World War One, the Holocaust in World War Two and the child soldiers of today. World War One was the deadliest conflict in human history with over 35 million military and civilian casualties. The soldiers bared the worst suffering through their experiences living in the trenches.
I feel sorry for his whole family having to go through this pain and disaster. I can’t imagine how they can lose someone so special to them, and who’s still way too young and has their whole life ahead of them. I feel like this is so common young kids dying for reasons that are unacceptable.
“The mother was beaten to death. She has dozens of broken bones, a fractured skull, and as you can see, she is not recognizable at all.” The detective was shocked by the brutality of the beating, “Jesus Christ!” he exclaimed. “What about the rest?” “Jim, the father. He was slightly starved, but the cause of death is dehydration.” “It’s like he just neglected him completely… left the bastard to die while killing the rest of ‘em.” The coroner moved to the next set of corpses. They stank and made the air smell rotten.
