As an example, Guillain-Barré syndrome has been linked to the influenza vaccine, however it has not been the proven cause, and even if it could be proven, it would only affect one or two out of one million people who receive this vaccination. (Franks, 2012) The varicella vaccination, also known as the chickenpox vaccination, is common amongst children, with the most common side effects being swelling on the injection site, fever, or mild rash. All serious symptoms such as pneumonia, and seizures, are considered extremely rare. (Lu, 2013) Hepatitis A and B vaccinations are also very common vaccinations with mild side effects such as fever, lethargy, soreness on the injection site, or loss of appetite. The most serious side effects linked with these vaccinations is a severe allergic reaction which is also considered extremely rare.
The way the vaccination was given in the 1970’s also attributed to this successful intervention. At first mass vaccination was used to help protect people from the disease, but since everyone did not comply, the disease was not completely eliminated. However, in 1967, a plan called ring vaccination was used. The plan consisted of finding people who had been exposed to someone who was infected, then vaccinating not only the exposed individual, but all those they had come into contact with. This strategy was effective in stopping the spread of the disease.
The Vaccination Debate Childhood vaccinations are necessary because they have been proven to be a very effective method for preventing childhood illness and disease. Vaccines are defined as “a product that produces immunity therefore protecting the body from the disease.” (National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, 2012a) Although childhood vaccines are an effective method for preventing disease, illness, and even fatalities – the number of children who are not vaccinated for preventable diseases has grown steadily over the past decade. Many parents believe that the risk of potential negative side effects outweighs the proven benefits of vaccination. Unsubstantiated and even fraudulent claims about vaccines causing autism,
Vaccines: Should Parents Avoid Vaccinating Their Children? Kara Willis Ms. Carrie Miller English Composition II 8/15/2012 Why immunize our children? Sometimes messages that we see in the media are very confusing. In one aspect, the media reassures that some diseases are almost gone from the U.S. thanks to vaccines. On the other hand, the media also warns to immunize our children, ourselves as adults, and the elderly.
THE FEAR OF VACCINATING CHILDREN The Fear of Vaccinating Children in the 20th Century: Struggle Between Health Care Providers and Parents Sona Patel Pitzer College December 7, 2013 THE FEAR OF VACCINATING CHILDREN 2 Abstract Immunizing children caused tension between parents and health care providers. Parental fear was prompted by the scarcity of information, safety concerns, personal beliefs, and distrust in the government. Parents were weary of mercury content in vaccinations and over immunizing their child at a young age. Many families used alternating vaccine schedules as a result of their fear. In response, health care providers created incentive and educational programs to reduce anxiety about immunizing children.
At one point, out of 77 deaths 1/5th were extremely healthy. The difficulty is that it is hard to prevent because it is spread by airborne droplets due to the way we live e.g. ; transport, big groups; therefore, how can it be prevented? The virus can be treated by anti-biotic called Tami-flu, however; the drug comes with a list of side effects. Some would argue that it’s not worth the risk but, really the only people that are advised against the drug are, again, children and people with
The reason that I feel that random drug testing in schools is important is because there are drugs everywhere and can easily be found. The main reason that many teens start using drugs is because of peer pressure and they feel that's there way of being accepted. The reason drug testing would help schools is because now the parents these students will be able to know if there child is possibly doing any drugs and can help prevent them from further use. The schools can also provide counseling for these students which can benefit a safe and private way to stop using drugs. Many students would probably resent the fact of talking a drug test so, I feel that two random drug test during the school year would let the school know if they are doing drugs and by the second drug test if they have chosen to keep doing drugs. And since most schools test only students who do something more than just show up for class—like join an after-school club, or play a sport—kids can avoid the activities rather than quit drugs. Drugs in school are a very big issue because schools are a drug free environment.
The varicella vaccine is known to cause the serious side effects in humans with immunodeficiencies, these side effects include infection after vaccination, pneumonia, encephalitis, and meningitis (Mercola, 2011). Equally important, the MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine may cause seizures and short term joint
Zheng 1 Professor L.Komarzynski Writing, Rhetoric and Persuasion 27 Aug 2015 Analysis on Documents of Infant Vaccination We know it’s painful to watch baby get poked and even worse to hear the inevitable crying when vaccinating. Yet a lot of people may be confused about the contradictory vaccination information. Some may ask "Why should parents consider getting their baby vaccinated?" or "Is vaccinated 100% effective?" or "Will it bring terrible side-effects?"etc.
Before the chickenpox vaccination was invented, nearly all people within the same geographical area had been infected, and by the time they reached their adulthood, they would have suffered a great deal, this is because, though in children chickenpox is mild, there are some degrees of risk that may lead to serious complications, such as bacterial pneumonia. Individuals who have suffered the chickenpox infection develop lifetime immunity as they are unlikely to be infected by it again. However, the virus remains dormant in the
