Should We Stay in the Middle East? The United States has been in the Middle East since 1991 with Operation: Desert Storm and the Gulf War. The United States had kept its forces in the Middle East after those conflicts were then resolved. Then after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 forces were mass sent to Iraq then soon just after that on October 7, 2001 troops were sent to Afghanistan. Although many people think the U.S. should leave the Middle East completely, the station of U.S. troops is absolutely necessary. If the countries will still have violence, Al-Qaeda is still present and active, and there could easily be another huge terrorist attack back in the states. They are still out in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and many other Middle Eastern countries. Al-Qaeda is like a monarchy once one ruler dies another takes his place. The new al-Qaeda ruler is an Egyptian named Ayman al-Zawahiri. So they are out there still harming innocent people and American and British soldiers still stationed somewhere in the Middle East. So they would just go ballistic if the United States left killing and destroying every thing in their sight. Now if the United States leaves the Middle East it could just end up leading to another full scale terrorist attack against the U.S. even happing in the states once again. If the United States pulls the troops out of the Middle East it could just show that the United States are just weak. Many terrorist groups such as al-Qaeda could see a soft spot, vulnerability in the U.S. If they see the soft spot, they will attack it on full force. If that happens there will in fact be at least an attempt on a terrorist attack against the United States. The United States should keep troops in the Middle East to protect the countries that are unable to protect themselves from awful terrorist groups such as al-Qaeda and so that the U.S seems vulnerable to the same terrorist
