I am in favor of the motion “Nuclear should be implemented in our country.” / I believe that nuclear should be implemented in our country. Nuclear provides more advantages than disadvantages to a developing country like Malaysia. Nuclear energy is vital following the increase in the world fuel price and our limited oil reserve. Before we move on my points of argument, let us take some time to define the motion clearly. Nuclear is defined as something relating to the nucleus of an atom. In this case, it stands for nuclear energy, which is defined as the energy released in nuclear fusion. Implement is defined as the action of putting a decision into effect. The whole statement would therefore mean, Malaysia should put the energy released in nuclear fusion into use. The first point that I want to bring up is that nuclear is cleaner. Let’s face it, there is no energy source that is 100% clean. The alternatives to nuclear, namely coal, fossil fuels and natural gas, are much more polluting and damaging than nuclear. Nuclear energy releases lower carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere during power generation, as compared to other methods such as gas and coal. Unlike fossil fuel plants, which spew tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year, nuclear power plants don't produce smoke. As a matter of fact, nuclear power is considered carbon-free. The second point that I would like to touch on is the efficiency of nuclear. It produces more kilowatts than coal, wind or solar for fewer cents. Therefore, it has low operating costs relatively. Large power-generating capacity of nuclear energy also makes it able to meet industrial and city needs, as opposed to low-power technologies like solar that might meet only local, residential, or office needs but cannot generate power for heavy manufacturing. Nuclear fusion would, potentially, solve all
