Jordan Taylor English 111-51 Descriptive Essay, Thomas Taylor 09/09/13 I was quickly awakened to the sound of the pager screaming at me. I sat up and silently listened as the dispatch lady said, “Company 12 respond for a structure fire.” I jumped right out of my bed and threw my clothes on. I ran to my truck and got right in and off I went. When I got to the firehouse I ran to my gear rack and jumped immediately into my boots, thrust my arms into my jacket, and tossed my helmet on my head. Shaking like a tree on a windy day, I climbed onto the fire truck.
takeera Barfield Comp& Lit It was a hot sunny day in June the day was after my 10th birthday I will never forget I had woke up really early that morning before my mom, my dad, my brothers and sister in fact, I didn’t even get much sleep the night before because I was super excited . I don’t remember eating breakfast that morning and I always eat breakfast but of course I didn’t care I just wanted to leave. I thought the day would never come but it did .Every year before that we’d plan our big family trip to Disney World but something always came up and we end up not going but that year we were actually going and I couldn’t believe it.
I remembered that night. Mother grabbed my hand. She asked my sisters and I to remain in silence and led us into our white car. She then rushed inside the house and in a blink of eyes she appeared with a big bag. She quickly started the engine and drove out of the house.
“Ring ring... ring ring...” John answered the phone. Someone on the other side of the phone was screaming, panicking because a 20 story apartment complex was on fire. The lady had dialed 911 and was transferred to Station 11 in New York. Engine 5 and all its members rushed out of the station and onto the road. It’s very hard to get through traffic in New York, but with the aid of a siren they made it through rather quickly.
All of us were running out of the lobby and standing by the big trailer. The mountain was shaking and a giant cloud was forming above it. We were shocking of that and finding the filming equipment, shooting this great living footage. The earthquake didn’t last for long, but the cloud above the mountain was getting larger. All people in the hotel were getting out at this point, and the manager told the guests that probably was a volcano eruption.
So, again, I went back to the dressing room and knocked on the door. ‘I’ll be right out,’ she said. By this time, everyone was getting out of the pool, drying off, and going home. More time passed. I again went to the dressing room and knocked on the door.
Around noon everyone got a lunch break for around thirty minutes. Then we had to be back. If you weren’t back you were automatically disqualified. We had no time to wait on people. There was one team that just went home because of the heat.
It was effected by the collision in the Halifax Harbor led to the biggest man made explosion in the world before the era of the atomic bomb on December 6th, 1917. Most children were going to school and were on there way; that means most children died rather than adults. It also destroyed the town and that took about 2 years to repair. At the time no one knew what to do they were freaking out because of all these disasters that happened. Most people were distracted by all the fire and such that they didn’t move a one bit; they just stood there.
The small town of Maycomb County has never been the same, since i got into some trouble when I stabbed my father in the leg with some scissors because we got into an argument! So now I stay in my house all day, every day. No one would talk to me anyways even if I did so it is just easier for everyone this way! The weather was unusually warm for the last day of October. The wind was growing stronger.
She did anything that didn’t involve social interactmeant. She didn’t like to be alone. Her favorite part of the day was to check the mail. The young girl got up once the rain stopped and slugged her way out of her room and went to the front porch to experience the only breath of cool air she would be getting the entire day. While walking over to the mailbox she began to painfully think of her past times at home.
