In this verse, it states, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus" (new living translation, Galatians 3:28). However, this verse unlike the verse in 1 Timothy is not talking about the church structure but strictly about the salvation “in Christ”. There are many other scriptures that can be used as examples that women should be under man in the church and not the leaders. However, it is truly how one wants to interpret the bible to believe what he or she wants to in different day-to-day situations. For Missouri Synod Lutherans, we are taught to take the bible for what it states and that women shouldn’t be leaders or pastors in our church.
Elisabeth Schüssler Fiorenza “If they are right—and they certainly have the text on their side—that G*d is male, Lord, King, and Father because it is revealed in Scripture, then only elite males, but not wo/men and non-elite men, are made in the image of G*d”( Norton), Elizabeth Fiorenza stated in an interview conducted at Villanova University. This is one of the foundational beliefs of the widely recognized and respected feminist theologian. She currently serves as Krister Stendahl Professor of Divinity at Harvard Divinity School. Her writings and theologies are Christian based although she identifies with the Catholic religion. She has collected several awards and recognitions during her lifetime including: becoming the first woman president
Each type of chaplaincy has its unique characteristics but overall a chaplain’s duty is to provide for the spiritual wellbeing of those he is serving, no matter which field he chooses. In each different field chaplains are able to fill a role that full time pastors cannot. Since chaplains are out among those they are ministering too, they have a level of access that pastors do not. However just like pastors, chaplains must have a personal conviction for the work they do. “Outside of assurance of personal conversion to Christ, no other spiritual conviction will help a pastor in his journey more than a firm conviction that God has called him to preach.
This code of ethics rejects sex outside of marriage, it also states that divorce, homosexuality, and public nakedness are sins forbidden by God. On the other hand modesty and humility are vital virtues that are important to all members of the Amish community. While every Amish community has their own set of rules and certain beliefs, all Amish people are extremely religious and respectful individuals. The social organization of the Amish is one that implores pride, humility, obedience, and the yielding of oneself to a higher authority. One important principle that exemplifies these beliefs is Gelassenheit, and although it is rarely spoken its meaning is woven into the social fabric of the Amish’s everyday life.
He hoped his colony would serve as a model for all other societies. He wanted the society to be a very tight knit community, always keeping God at the center. Everyone should “rejoice together, mourn together, labor and suffer together,” to keep the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace. He didn’t want religious faith forced on anyone, but for it to happen naturally by the hope and faith of the people themselves. Winthrop refers to them as a “city on a hill”, meaning that they will be unable to hide their failures from anyone.
The puritan society is an orderly, tightly knitted model of a holy community. The tradition puritan village was centered around the Town Hall and the Church as religion was held on top of everything in the society (B). They believed that the limitations of themselves were determined by god, as John Cotton stated “it is therefore fit for every man to be studious of the bounds which the Lord has set” (H). The need to educate the youth and to pass on the knowledge of god was stressed in order for future generations to be included in the holy community as well (E). The community lived under a strict code where pleasure is not allowed as people were expected to put all their heart out for the Lord while working hard to gain the Lord’s approval.
Women are just as capable as men in governing the Church. There is no evidence for the exclusion of women. “Nowhere does Jesus Christ explicitly exclude women from leadership in his community (Viewpoints). There were many examples of women in the Bible with religious roles. “What about Mary, the mother of Jesus?
In making sure that the secular psychology principles align with biblical thinking the biological issues seem to be forgotten. While it is optimal that every human’s make up consist of all the right parts, not every personality will come to counseling complete due to external circumstances and life’s path in general. Hawkin’s model implies that every human beings make-up contains a complete personality and the core is influenced by the Holy Spirit. This is a weakness because only a Christian’s core has the ability to be influenced by the Holy Spirit. It is more reasonable to lean towards Crabb’s model in this area because he discusses the development of maturity in the Christian walk.
When counselling, it is very important not to put their own beliefs onto the client. It is imperative, to have an open mind as this will enable the counsellor to truly walk in the client’s shoes. If for example a counsellor has a strong religious believe system and they believe in no sex before marriage and they have a client who wants to discuss whether to have sex with her boyfriend or not. Under no circumstances should the counsellor interfere with the client trying to discover their own belief system. Also as a counsellor it is important to accept others and have the capacity and humility to change and have an awareness of ethical moral
The contemporary churches promote equality and support their followers, yet during the movement the churches “remained silent” or were “outright opponents” (5). The tradition of growing up in the church teaches its followers the beliefs of the church, which are now to treat everyone with equality and to love everyone. People who go to church are influenced by the traditions of the church, so they would disagree and be shocked by the way the church dealt with the Civil Rights
