At eighteen he played in his first National Hockey League game with the Boston Bruins. He helped the team win two Stanley Cups. He got the Most Valuable Player Trophy three times, the Best Defenseman Trophy eight times and he won the Rookie of the Year Trophy his first year with the Bruins. Bobby Orr signed the first $1Million dollar hockey contract in 1971. He had bad knees from playing hockey his whole life.
“When I was 5 and playing against 11-year-olds, who were bigger, stronger, faster, I just had to figure out a way to play with them.” Gretzky’s mind set of hockey quickly had him playing with boys much older than him. In 1978, at age 17, he was signed a contract to the WHA Indianapolis Racers. In 1979 when the WHA join up with the NHL the NHL team associated was allowed to keep 2 players from their WHA team. Gretzky was obviously a choice for the Edmonton Oilers and was in the NHL by the age of 20. Wayne Gretzky is important to Canada in many different ways.

Wayne Gretzky was born in Brantford Ontario and had a passion for skating and hockey ever since he was three. Wayne Gretzky owned his first pair of skates when he was three. He started to play ice hockey for a team when he was only six with 10 year olds and played at a level higher than his peers through his minor years of hockey.
He was well known and involved with his community. Moving to Canada meant starting over and learning new things. Balbir along with the rest of his family did not understand English so well or spoke it so well. From a system prospective Balbir has his siblings and his son's school social worker. Balbir and his brother are very close and Balbir's family lived with his brother for two months when first coming to Canada.

Robert Gordon Orr (Bobby Orr) was born March 20th, 1948 in the town of Parry Sound, Ontario. From a very young age, Bobby Orr started skating and quickly demonstrated a passion for hockey.
Sydney Crosby Sydney Crosby was born in 1987 in Canada, he is captain of the professional ice hockey team the Pittsburgh penguins. Swiftly shot his way into the record books and reached icon status at a remarkably young age. How it all started When Crosby was young he used to go down into his basement and shot pucks into his drier at the age of two then by the age of three he had already learnt to skate. Why is he famous? Sydney Crosby is probably most famous for the records he has set e.g.
He explains that because he is a fast skater, he plays as a left wing with a center and right wing to primarily score goals for their team. He then goes on to explain how he started out playing hockey for his brother’s team when he was five in Waltham, Massachusetts. Shawn also talks about how his career took off in 1992 when he played in the winter Olympics, and was signed to the Pittsburgh Penguins after being on their draft team since his junior year in high school in 1987. After playing the last half of the season with the Penguins, he went on to take them to win the Stanley Cup that year, which is every hockey player’s dream. Although he has been traded to different teams and finally landed with the Ottawa Senators, he does not think of hockey as a “job”.

Years of NHL play have come and gone and his name still sits triumphant amongst many. However, tables have been turning the last few years as Sydney Crosby, another young Canadian player, has stepped into the spotlight and taken the professional league by storm. Records have been set by both of these talented phenomenons, but who in the end will take the title of “The Great One,” young active Sydney Crosby or the retired hockey hero Wayne Gretzky?
Terry Fox was born in Canada in July 28, 1981. Some things were evindent about Terry. For Instance, He loved the sports, he was not tall,he was extremely competitive and he had a huge amount of determination,he had been playing basketball in the hight school and wanted to play guard on the Mary Hill Cobras Team. He was only 5 feet tall a the time and mediocre at the game . On November 12, 1976 Fox had a car accident, he crashed with a truck but Fox came out of the accident with a sore right knee.
The thing that comes to mind right away is that he achieved championship status on all levels available in a mere three years. From Everett High School State Champions 1977, to Michigan State Spartans NCAA Champions 1979 and then Los Angeles Lakers NBA Champions in 1980. To experience that path in life in incredible in of itself, had the rules been different at the time he would have surely been an Olympic Medalist then. His desire to provide for his loved ones was a factor in his deciding to leave college early. A trend that would increase over the years, until some even chose to bypass college altogether.
