PHYSICAL CARE AND HEALTH ISSUES MODULE 2.3 The drinking culture in the UK has changed dramatically over the past 30 years with extended licensing hours, cheap alcohol and women regularly drinking extensive amounts according to Plant (2008). Vevers (2001) noted that in 2001, as many as 1 in 15 children lived with parents who had a drink problem. Worryingly, in 2011, Rawstrone (2011) found that in the UK, 2.6 million children lived with at least one parent whose drinking put them at risk of neglect. With this information in mind, for the purpose of this essay, I shall examine the complex issue of Foetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) and the impact it has on child, parents and siblings.
