Victoria Pirenoglu Sexual Assault on College Campuses Specific purpose: To inform my audience on about sexual assault on college campuses, where sexual assault can take place, how to avoid situations that can put you in danger of sexual assault and the affects sexual assault can have on a victim. Central idea: Although sexual assault can happen anywhere, college campuses are one of the top locations it takes places, to men and women alike. Introduction I. Have you ever felt unsafe while walking to your car after a night class or maybe after a school dance or event? More often the girls will feel this way than guys. But to help the guys understand, imagine a woman you care about, whether that is your mother, sister, cousin, best friend or girlfriend. Now imagine them being put into a situation where they will be sexually assaulted. It isn’t a comforting thought right? II. According to The American Association of University Professors, women in the traditional age range for college students are four times more likely to be sexually assaulted than women in any other group. Between 20 and 25 percent of college woman and 4 percent of college men report having been sexually assaulted during their college years. III. When I did my research I found that college-bound women are at a greater risk than their non-college bound peers. Being a young female attending a university I see the stories about sexual assault in the news often and it made me want to be more aware of situations and how to handle them. This information can help keep you safe or keep a friend safe. IV.
