By offering revealing anecdotes about ordinary people as well as helpful suggestion about changing everyday behavior, this book shows how and why having family meetings, the importance of keeping promises, how to balance individual and family needs, and how to move from dependence to independence. The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Families is an invaluable guidebook to the welfare of families everywhere. The first habit (Be Proactive) is the ability to act on principles and values rather than on emotion or circumstance. The ability to do this is based on the four unique human gifts, which are self –awareness, the ability to stand back and observe our own lives, thoughts actions, etc. The second unique human gift is conscience, an inner voice that helps us to evaluate what we observe. The third one is imagination, the ability to see something different from past experiences or responses. The last unique human gift is independent will, the power to take action. The first habit is the key to all the other habits, the power to choose. The second habit (Begin With the End in Mind) involves creating a clear, compelling vision of what you and your family are all about. It is the principle of vision. The key is creating a family mission statement, which is a unified expression from all family members of what the family is all about and the principles that will govern family life. We must decide what kind of family we want and then identify principles that will help us get there. There are three steps to follow in creating a mission
